Tour de Jetton

On Monday, August 20th, officials with Charlotte Mecklenburg Park and Rec will be in attendance to ride the new trail at Jetton park.  Jim Garges, the new Director of CMP&R will be on hand to ride with us and see first hand what it is that we do as a club...

You as members not only of the Trailblazers, Dirt Divas, and PASA, but as the mountain biking community, are invited to join us for our ride.  The time is 2:00 - 4:00 and CMP&R will be providing refreshments for all riders...

This could be a really big day for our club and the future of mountain biking in the Metro-Charlotte area.  I realize that the timing probably couldn't be worse (Monday afternoon, August heat) but a strong turn-out would be beneficial to us all.  If they like what they see on 20 acres, who's to say that 220 acres isn't in our future?

Check your schedule, grab your favorite club jersey, and make plans to join us this coming Monday, August 20th, 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Jetton Park...

And as always, we appreciate your support!

Let me know if you want me to stop out at Jetton this weekend and make sure it is ready for "company". Maybe get a ride in at LNSP after.
Let me know

Larry,

If you have a few free moments to check the trail, that would be great...I was there on Saturday and things were looking good, but a quick run through would probably be a good idea...

I'm moving Travis to Boone this weekend, I won't be available until Monday afternoon...

Hope to see a BIG crowd!

I will give it a look on Sunday, make sure no trees are down.  I will have to make at least one lap, I have never ridden the trail.
I can't make it Monday....stupid work!!!! Hope there is a good turnout.
Have fun with the move, call me if you need any help.

Cry Cry Cry

*sigh*

Young Travis is "all growed up".  Next thing you know, Wes Satterwhite will be in college.  All these kids who were "kids" (i.e., the young junior racers) when I started racing back in the day are growing up so fast!

Geez, do I sound old or what?

Sorry to go off topic, Tom.  For the record, I can't make the Monday meeting either.

OK, I am going to sacrifice my regularly scheduled afternoon of basketball to come out and join the crowd. If my daughter doesn't have to work I'll bring her along also. Gives me an excuse to come out and ride Jetton. Plus, if it means possibly gaining more trails in the future it will be worth the trip. And I'll finally get to meet Gramps Cheesy Cheesy

She looked good today, I had not been out there since it was completed, the trail has settled in great and is very firm, saw a couple and their girls out there, good to see it being used. The only very small issue that I saw was the pea gravel on the switchback at the glass pit had not packed completely, a little more rain and some tires across it and it will pack down.
Definitely a great showcase of features and trailbuilding.

Cody and I rode 3 laps Sunday afternoon on our way back from the Creeper.... same concerns with the cinder.... A couple of other things that we can talk about Monday.... I did notice that the angle that you use to hit the small bridge could be a problem if it is a little damp.... maybe roofing shingles?

BTW it is a great SS trail.

At 1 mile in length can you say short track race.  Wink

Oh, do we tell the gate keeper that we are there for the meeting and get in free? Grin

Disappointed in missing basketball or meeting you Grin Actually it works out well. I'm going to take a quick ride at North Meck before heading to Jetton. Also have a cousin who lives on up the road that I haven't seen in over thirty years and I am going to try and look him up after we're done. Just "found" him earlier this summer. My daughter can't make it due to a previous commitment I had forgotten about.

Actually the gate should only be manned on weekends, free weekday entry...

We are to meet at Waterford Hall (at the mid point of the paved road in the park proper) around 2:15 or so...It is on the waterfront, not hard to locate...

A REALLY big day for the club!  We had +/- 20 Trailblazers at todays' Tour de Jetton, and the gathering was a HUGE success!  We took 8 CMP&R employees, including new P&R director Jim Garges on a tour of Jetton...While we had a captive audience, we were able to blow through a 70 slide Power Point Presentation, just to whet a few appetites...Then it was off in blazing 3:00 heat for a few laps on the new trail...The response was extemely positive as Jim Garges told us how excited he was that there was such a close affiliation between the Trailblazers and Park and Rec....More symbolic than a real workout, we hope the ride will go a long way toward continued backing of the club by CMP&R...

Thanks go out to all of the individuals that blew off an afternoon of work to make such a positive impression on our local allies...I can't thank you guys enough for your efforts!
