LKNM Chapter Meeting
01/15/08 at 3:00pm
Print Post
Just a friendly reminder that our next Trailblazer LKNM Chapter meeting is this Thursday, Jan. 17th at Shomars in Mooresville/I-77 exit 33 at 7:30 PM.  Hope to see you there!

Mark

BTW I'm also looking for a motivated individual to come to the meetings and be the secretary and take minutes.  For now all you'd have to do is just jot down what we talk about at the meetings and e-mail them to me.  I can take care of the rest for now.  Thanks!

bump.  Are we still on tonight?

I'm excited.  Since we've moved, not only is it faster for us to get to Charlotte for the regular club meetings, but we also have a chapter of our own now!

Nope.  Meeting has been canceled due to low outside temps.  Suppose to be at 32 around 6 PM.  Main roads should be OK but secondary roads would be sketchy.  I've called Shomars and rescheduled the meeting for next Thursday, Jan. 24th at 7:30 PM.
Seeya then!

I won't be able to make the meeting. But I thought maybe you could talk about a forum heading for poeple who don't ride Sherman Branch Grin 9 times out of 10 you look for trail conditions and the heading at the top is a SB heading. You would be surprised at how many people this deters. I've been looking into other clubs to direct my cash too. It seems the only trails I ride that are assoiated with the Trailblazers are Lake Norman and Signal Hill. And looking at how many folks showed up at the last SH trail day. That trail does not get as much press as others in the Charlotte area Angry

That's one of many reasons for the creation of the LKNM Chapter.  I/we can't  help what is written on the forums.  There are just a bunch of folks that are passionate about Sherman Branch.  Why don't YOU start some posts about Lake Norman and Signal Hill?  I'm sure you'd get some response both positive and negative.

I'll qoute a special past president...

"Ask not what you're club can do for you, but what you can do for your club."

BTW I'm not trying to be a smart a** or make you defensive.  You can give your money to any club you like.  That's your choice.  But if you'd like to see a change...create it and be that change.

Why would that deter anyone?  Annoy I can understand, I am a contributor often to SB threads and I can get annoyed myself  Embarrassed Tongue

Just hit the topic line and you can see new posts within the topic.  SB does in fact get a lot of play...sometimes probably a little too much. But remember that just like for you the local Charlotte trails are a bit out of your way same goes for Lake Norman/ Signal hill for many of us more local to the Charlotte area.

Mark seems to be heading up the LKN Chapter for exactly the reasons you bring up...

My apologies to anyone annoyed, offended, discouraged, deterred (or whatever) by SB updates and threads. There will be a LOT less of them in the future, at least out of me. No offense taken...

Hope everything works out well at home with your grandmother.

I think there are many people that appreciated knowing gate status before driving 45 mins. to get there. You were providing a valuable service to a few people, it will be missed.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

just bringing up a topic for the LKN chapter. Didn't mean for anyone to take offense. But I have seen more Charlotte trails listed in this forum. From someone who lives in the north,it come to mind, that you should work towards the trails that you ride. So I just asked the question, that if I ride trails like Lk Norman, Signal hill, Riverbend, Rich Park, or Tanglewood. Would it not be better to invest the time and money into those projects Smiley
And people that I have talked to,say that they go on line and all they see is SB in the trails forum. I'm not saying this was purposely done, but I did add a thread about SH and within  5 min it The SB tread took the heading with about 5 responses on every square inch of the dirt. It seemed like it was being done to keep it the top heading. Sad
But now I hear the LANO thread will be used for LN projects. So that's a good thing Smiley

The LKNM chapters range of influence will reach to Statesville for now.  That means I don't know what to tell you about Tangle Wood, Riverbend and Rich Park.  My guess is those trails are cared for by someone in the Greensboro, Winston Salem area.  Check it out.  Put your time, energy and $ into the trails you feel would benefit the most.

Meeting update:
Had a really good turnout!  Thanks to Tom M. and Jim G. for showing up.

Looks like the LANO e-mail list will be converted into the Lake Norman list.  Details to follow.

Wes and some others (the other guy  Wink) have started flagging a corridor at the new trail in Statesville.  This new trail will be connected by existing greenway to the Signal Hill trail.  Details and time line to follow.

The subject of trails for pay/donations was brought up by Bob Karriker.  Since we have mechanized equipment that requires fuel, maintenence and repair, the club is starting to incur more costs.  IMBA and others project that a mile of single track costs approx. $15,000.00 to build.  While we won't be asking P&R for that amount we do want them to help defray the costs of operating and maintaining the equipment.  Details to follow.

Grand opening for the neighborhood/adaptive sports trail at Jetton is coming up in April.  This will be a huge event with hopefully a lot of press.  Details to follow.

Minutes for the meeting will be posted on the forums shortly.  Thanks to all who came out and attended.

Mark
