December Monthly Meeting This Thursday
12/03/08 at 1:59am
Print Post
Come join us for our December meeting this Thursday at Fuel Pizza in Park Road Shopping Center at 7:30pm.

We'll give some brief general updates, a recap of the IMBA Club Care Event last month, and try something new this month with an "open mic" portion of the meeting.

Playing off the IMBA Club Care Event where we'll talk about some possible ways to mix things up next year, anyone and everyone is welcome to come talk about anything and everything concerning things you'd like to see the club start doing, stop doing, etc..

If you've ever had some ideas about the club, but didn't feel like you had a good venue to bring them up, Thursday's your night. All constructive feedback and ideas are welcome.

This time around my excuse for not making monthly meetings isn't softball, just to far away at the moment. So I have a question. Are there any future fund raising plans? I.E. donated stuff put up for sale? The reason I ask is that my daughter bought a bike for her husband. He has ridden it I think twice and can no longer ride due to health problems (knees, back, etc). If this bike can be donated to raise funds I would be more than happy to get it from her and bring it down here from Ohio. Please let me know.

That's an interesting idea. I don' t know of anything specific in the works, but if it's possible to get the bike donated to the club, I"m sure we could come up with something....be it a fundraiser for the club, find a person in need that may not be able to afford a bike but would like one, etc..

If the bike can be donated you can PM me and I'd be happy to see what we could pull together.

Thanks for posting this.....

Also on the agenda, we will propose a budget to have Trail Dynamics do the rough-in machine work at both Southwest Park (utilizing the grants we have been given for that work) and at the Lake Norman extension trail (utilizing Trailblazer general funds. We will ask the membership for approval to spend a portion of the club's funds for this work.

We will also have a special guest. Woody Keene, President of Trail Dynamics LLC, President of the Professional Trailbuilders Association and Board Member of IMBA, is in town to start another trail project today and he wanted to attend our meeting. He will address the costs associated with the proposed work Trail Dynamics would do for us. (Woody is happy to step out if/when the membership wants to discuss the proposal.) I'm sure he can also address any questions we may have about about IMBA and trailbuilding in general. This will be a good opportunity to see what's going on in the professional trailbuilding scene today.

Please come out to the meeting for lots of discussion, and matbe a beverage or two.

JimShoe: You bet we'd be interested in such a fundraiser - if your daughter is willing to donate that bike. We would very much appreciate the opportunity!

No big deal...really.

So, since I couldn't make it to the meeting last night, due to customer obligations, what made it go on so long??

There were some budget issues to discuss. The result is we should see some new trails at LNSP very soon  Smiley

Lots of things to discuss as noted in Ed & Jim's agenda posts above.  Jim's IMBA club care recap combined with Ed's open mic concept added a new forum to discuss ideas about improving the club.  Most revolved around improving the social aspects of the club:

- Lessen the frequency of meetings & add in more social rides, day trips, etc.
- Make a "Wish List" of club tasks & duties to allow members to determine how  they can help
- Have food (pizza, burgers, etc.) after trailwork days to reward & encourage the social aspect
- Contact old members to survey what would bring them back.
- Give T-shirts as new/renewed member incentives
- Appoint a Social Director to facilitate the social aspect

And of course, the aforementioned budget spends.  Put our money to active use, improving the speed and efficiency of trailbuilding while maybe even introducing some new styles.

That's my takeaways.

Sorry, I have a job, this is volunteer work.  But you have a new secretary for next year so maybe she will get them done in a more timely manner Grin

Being secretary is not easy.  (I can vouch personally. Did it for a few years.)
Lots of ADD running amuck at meetings with back round noise doesn't help matters.
Thanks to Dirt hooker for a job well done!!

Speaking as another former TTB secretary, it's a crappy job.  At least Hooker gets her minutes in by the next meeting (9 times out of ten).  OK, at least she gets minutes in within even two months! (Something I had an issue with)  It's hard to type minutes from a disjointed meeting with lots of random comments.  (I was secretary when we were back at Jack's, and there were lots of side conversations and straying discussions to go along with the free-flowing beer.).  She's done the best job that I've seen so far, and she even stuck around for more than one year!  Good luck to Terry (Mrs. Vasco)!

I know who I'm going to nominate for 2010 secretary.... Wink  (be careful what you wish for...)

November minutes have been posted...

Special thanks to doswaldos, nikolocious, mtbchk and the Dirt Hooker for all of their efforts...Mrs. Vasco has some hard acts to follow, but I think she'll be up to the task...

(Thanks again to Leah for all of her efforts...She's done a terrific job!)
