Well, count us out.  My son broke his arm this afternoon, so now he has a nice new cast.  Sad  No bike riding for a while.   Cry  It's okay though, at least now my shoulder will have time to heal properly.  I guess the injury bug hit us pretty hard.  Y'all have fun out there, and Happy New Year!

Real sorry to hear it Mutt. Hope he's feelin' OK. I'm sure you won't keep him off the bike too long. He's a trooper. Tell 'em Mr. Pres sez we'll miss him at tomorrow's ride.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.  Isaiah really appreciates your comments.   Smiley

He'll be back on the bike in no time.  He fell while he was at the playground, and broke both the radius and the ulna (the two forearm bones in case you didn't know), just before his wrist.  Neither one broke all the way through, so they say he should be fine in about four weeks.   So the moral of this story is, playgrounds are more dangerous than mountain bikes!  Cool

I think that was the most THTB jersey's I've ever seen in one day PLUS no encounters with anyone going the wrong way at LNSP!

Thanks Arleigh and Cool Breeze/Trek store crew!

Thanks to everyone for such a great ride and attendance.    I'm also very thankful to all the encouraging words as you all passed my family on the main loop as our two sons enjoyed their first off road experience.

(They kicked butt and asked to go back out a 2nd and 3rd time.)

We took some photos, not enough but some!!  Here's my set over at flickr.

Quite a turn out for sure.....and I second the thanks to  Arleigh and Cool Breeze/Trek store crew and everyone else that pitched in for the treats at the end of the ride.

And did everyone see the new nice almost can't miss them signs showing foot and bike traffic directions?  Should put an end (almost) to the wrong way charlies.  Grin

And man had I forgotten what that hill on the Mombo was like on a single speed ( no I did not clear it this time) going that direction... Cry

Good to meet some new riders too.

yes big thanks to cool breeze and the gang!!!  and arleigh (im assuming your the one that moved here a few weeks ago i spoke w/ [i was the one wearin the socks, brought the marinated carruts/pound cake]) glad to hear they enjoyed and hopefully everything is working out here in nc for you, thanks for your efforts as well.

i dont know, laminated fluorescent paper works fine for trail signs, until you put them outside, on a trail, near a lake.  it definitely looks more like a state park trail now than ever b4

THANKS AGAIN GUYS AND GIRL!!!! Wink

Great day all around. 80+ riders, good weather, good ride, and good food. Thanks again to Arleigh, and all the folks from Cool Breeze Cyclery & Trek Bicycle Store Charlotte for partnering wih the Tarheel Trailblazers to sponsor the ride. Great job folks!!

Also thanks to Casey and the Park staff for letting us set up a tent and host a big ride like this.

We'll be having a big work day this month to continue to add mileage to this great trail system, so keep your eye on the trailwork section of the forum for updates.

And a very special thank you from my wife to Gramps for putting a lock on the porta jon.. Grin One from me to since now I can get ready faster since I don't have to stand guard.  Kiss

I'll add my thanks to Arleigh and the Trek/Cool Breeze stores for an awsome ouying. We had anywhere from 60 to 80 folks show up. Everyone enjoyed the ride ('cept maybe Brian who did a few too many shoulder plants due to a loose SS chain) and the food and desserts were great. Great way to start the new year. Thanks to everyone for coming out.

Just as importantly, there were lots of faces that we don't ordinarily see at a regular monthly meeting. That confirms that we need to do more of this type of gathering where we can get more/different members attending and participating. If anyone has ideas for future gatherings and alternatives to monthly meetings, just let us know. Any bike shops or other sponsors that want to get involved, please give us a holler.

Arleigh also left us some New Year's presents to use for our next meeting. She had intended to raffle off some scwhag at the ride, but for several reasons we didn't pull it off. I'll post up separately how we'll dispose of the new loot, so stay tuned.

Thanks Arleigh!!! That was fun!

Sounds like I missed a good time!!  But it was hard to beat low to mid-70's in Florida.  Wink  Although I did miss the elevation.  Dang, Florida is flat!! Shocked

Just a few suggestions from a new guy:

-If you see new faces introduce yourselfs and strike up a conversation
-Clicks tend to intimidate new people
-Have some get to know you activities
-maybe some nametags that have your forum name and real name so people can identify who you are; thus maybe help eliminating suggestion # 1
-bike contest (nicest, oldest, most expensive, best looking etc)
-introduce who the trail maintenance people are

These all may sound pretty lame but something different and new if they haven't already been done.

Aw, thanks for the condolences, Mark.  I was still holding out hope with 3 min. to go...  Driving for a TD and only 2 needed. Hey, it coulda happened.  (Woulda been a small miracle, but...)  And then the interception.   Cry

Anyway, good suggestions ReignMan.  At the Diva rides we always start with introductions and I was just commenting to Ed that we should do that, but looked up & the lot was already cleared out.  I think it was too cold for hanging around and people wanted to get the blood flowing.  Maybe next time...
