Both are great, coming from the NW the family has spent a lot of time in brewpubs. My daughter was only 4 days old when she visited her first in PDX (The Lucky Lab). Of course she goes with me to NODA and Birdsong.

I like having the food truck available - I think they rotate between them, but not sure. Last time I was there it was the Wingzza Truck. Good pizza.

Let me know when you are going again to NoDA on a Tuesday - I might have to come over to meet you.

Anyone seen Bell's HopSlam in stores yet? it's about that time of year...
the stores in Asheville are advertising it. I'm gonna ask my brother in Michigan(where it is more readily available) to pick me up a couple of sixes for my visit there in June. Beats driving to a store to find it sold out Wink

I just found this thread and to do my due diligence, I actually took the time to read the whole damn thing... why, I'm still not sure, but I did it.  I guess I didn't want to miss out on any good leads for delicious beer.

Anyway, I'm new to the Creme Brulee Stouts.  Are these a seasonal brew or could I find them out right now?  My wife would go nuts for one of these.

To those touting the Bell's Brewery, I have to agree.  They have been pouring good quality beer for over a decade.  I feel in love with their hefeweizen back when it was called "Sol Sun" before it was changed to Oberon (Legal Issues).  Across the board I don't like fruit in my beer, to which most hefewiezens are off my list, but this is one that has a great clean taste with little to no fruitiness to it... and I don't know the actual ABV, but its up there.  Three or four Oberons and your bound to do or say something stupid... but don't worry, you won't remember it!

I don't think Southern Tier's Creme Brulee is a seasonal - give me 20 minutes and I'll find out where reliably (if it can be) obtained locally.

As for the hefeweizens - no fruit in them at all, mostly the esthers from the yeast that give it the taste. Unless of course you get something like Pyramid's Apricot Ale, Widmer's Widberry (no longer in production) etc... I like a really cold fruit hefe during the summer, but a good weizen should be spicy and  have a bit of a fruit nose IMO. But, give me a good strong pale ale or a porter any day.

Okay, it looks like Southern Tier was brewing it in smaller batches than their normal runs, so at this point probably not a seasonal (I'm still running that down). But, there is a possibility that if it's still around that Lil Robert's ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)) in Concord can probably order it or may even still have it. He turns over his stocks very very quickly.

Thanks Slo-Mo (& SC Guy) for looking in to the Creme Brulee's, I guess that will give us something to look forward to this summer.

And to each their own, you're probably right in the fact that there isn't actually fruit in the brew, but the esters or whatever gives the brew that fruity flavor just doesn't suit me, which is why I like Bell's Oberon as its flavor is just soooo good...talk about a great summer time brew.

I'll have to check the Total Wine on Woodlawn and see if they have this.  Once again, this will earn some wicked good brownie points with the wife... its good when the wife likes good beer!

I thought the John John was pretty good too. I generally like my barrel aged beers a little more potent than dead guy though. The first couple sips were delish, but the flavor faded a little.

Counted about 17 cases of Hop Slam at the Total Wine off Providence Rd.  Limit of 1 six pack per customer.  It was off in the corner by the marked down beer, didn't see it until I was getting ready to check out.

I heard about this, the QCBF, and by the time I looked up the site they were sold out.  Bummer.   Cry

On a somewhat related note, just around the corner from the Nieghborhood theatre is a hidden little gem of a bar galled Jack Beagles.  They have been open for about a year now but have yet to have a grand opening or market themselves... yet, they have a pretty good beer selection in there... and to make things interesting they have a mystery beer for $1 a bottle.  It's beer that's getting close to being out of date from the stock next door and Salvador Deli.  We had some decent brews for a buck a piece... and of course one crappy one.  It's a gamble of a mystery.

Oh and they have some really good food in there too.  Blue Bayou Burger=phenomenal.

Enjoy the QCBF for us as we wish we were there.

THanks for the heads up. The wine bar in Aboretum says they will have a limited supply in next week.
