I had one of these the other night.  Comes in a pint bottle.  Just a regular ale brewed with orange peel...that's 9%.  And tastes like a 4%er.  Dangerous stuff!

I had one of these from Cigar City recently. The Marshall Zhukov Russian Imperial Stout was outstanding.

Your Cigar City comments reminded me I still have one Hunahpu's Cognac Barrel Imperial Stout left for a cold, rainy day.

total wine on park rd/woodlawn sold 50 cases in three hours. their limit was a 6 pack per person.

It's getting ridiculous....it's not THAT good.

I remember when I lived in Michigan,Hopslam would be released and you could wait till the weekend to pick up a couple of six packs. I'm thinking that was before the recent trend in craft beers. Deviant Dales is my favorite IIPA. But I tend to like the more malty flavorful beers. So the fall and winter are my favorite times to drink beer Smiley

I've yet to try "the Elder", but have heard many good comments. If we could get Pliny and Three Floyds local I think we'd be complete...On another note I think it's time to crank up the homebrewing again....Belgians are just getting too expensive.

I managed to sneak a quick brew session in on Sunday. I brewed a Sculpin clone.

I cracked open a beer last night that I have been anticipating for a while.  Mother Earth's Windowpane Series Figs and Raisins.  It is the 3rd they've released so far.

#1 - Blackberries: Double Witbier aged in red wine barrels with blackberries. This was awesome. It won SAVOR.
#2 - Peaches: Double American Wheat aged in white wine barrels with peaches. This beer dissappointed me slightly. The idea was great but the flavors didn't develope as intended.

But last night I drank #3, a 9% Belgian abbey style ale aged in brandy barrels from Carriage House, along with figs and raisins.  The result, excellence.  I think it's the best one so far.  The flavors are all very well balanced. It's fairly dry, as a Belgian ale should be, but the barrel aging and the stone fruit add a subtle sweetness. There is not very much oak present, but it is noticeable. The only drawback I found is that it does taste slightly boozy, probably from the fact that it was only bottle a month ago. I have a few more that I will age a bit before drinking. I recommend trying this if you are a fan of complex beers.

Hey Everyone.. Me and my wife are new to the area.  We are pretty big fans of Blue Moon and normally substitute Shock Top if they don't have it. Are there any local breweries that brew a wheat beer?  We would love to support the local people.

Olde Hickory makes a Hefeweizen that's pretty good, and a lot of people like Mother earth's Sunny Haze, which is more a German-style hefe. I can't think of any outstanding wheat beers I've had from any CLT breweries. There is plenty of good beer to go around though from local breweries such as NoDa and Triple C, to great beer bars/stores like the Common Market and Growlers. Have fun, beer is really growing in this area.

Is that a keg used as a brew pot?

Yes, I have a diptube/spout/false bottom setup. I also have a HLT and mashtun made from kegs also.  They all also have thermometer dials.  I got the stuff to build them from (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

This is a new beer from New Belgium called Rampant. It's an Imperial IPA. Pretty good if you like a lot of hops and a somewhat bitter, dry finish. Rumor is that this is replacing Belgo this year.

You are da man. I've tried many but just can't do the 100% lambics. I can drink the sweeter fruit styles but not the sour. If I had the smiley face that bows, I would have it bowing to you.
