Thanks for this recommendation Jason. Great beer, awesome price. Reminds me a lot of the St. Bernardus Christmas Ale at twice the price.

Gotta give props to Trader Joes for their 2009 Vintage Ale. Comes in a full pint for UNDER $5. Dark and very full flavored, but super smooth and sweet. The fact that it comes in at 9% doesn't hurt either. If you haven't tried it I highly recommend. Smiley

The Trader Joes beer is much more than a pint. It's a 750ml bottle, that's 1 pint 9.4oz or 25.4oz. taste beer none the less.
The Trader Joes brew is a seasonal beer, each year they brew a different style. I still have 2 of them from last year. These beer age well and are better with age.  Last years was a Belgiem brown. I liked it better.

Special order my friend. I got people. Wink

If I am not mistaken, Macs Speed Shop had this on tap. Maybe D&D can confirm.

Total Wine on Independence will see ya right. Got it 2 weeks ago with the limited edition Yule Bock, even has bottle number on it (too good for me I know but so yummy!)

As for aging the beers, I keep on drinking them. The longest I got to aging any one of them was 2 weeks...Oh well!

Me sis in law brought me a six pack of Schlafly Saison Ale from for Christmas. Very tasty. It is a Belgium unfiltered style, medium bodied beer. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) for more info.

I read the entire thread to make sure no one had mentioned this one before, but you have to try it (if you can get your hands on it).

Weyerbacher - Blithering Idiot

High gravity brew with wonderful color and complexity + zero after taste.  Awesome!Wink

Anybody out there brew your own?  I brewed with a couple of TTB members recently and have to say that my first batch after a 4 year hiatus was quite delicious.

Anyone like Delirium Tremins (DT) (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) , the gastropub, The Liberty (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) has this on tap. Delicious Belgium Strong Dark Ale. Speaking with the co-owner while out there I requested Chouffle (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) , my other favorite Belgium Strong Dark Ale. Matthew will be getting this beer this Friday (01.22) on tap for those that are interested.

I'm probably heading that way this Friday for a tasting as I know this will not last long.

On another note, one of the beers I have being trying to get for the longest time is the Maui Coconut Porter which is currently only availalbe in Ca and Maui. While researching the micro breweries in and around Hickory (my next trip) I came across The Catawba Valley Brewing Company (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) who brews a similar beer called the Kink Coconut Porter

Quote:
King Coconut Porter

This unusual American Porter has become a Spring seasonal
mainstay for Catawba Valley Brewing Company.  Hand crafted
using the finest malts & hops then infused with actual oven
roasted coconut.  Combined with the rich chocolaty Porter,
coconut, and caramelized barley, King Coconut Porter has
become lovingly known as the candy bar in a keg.

Anyone try this or know where I can get my hands on some? I sent out an email to the owner too. Looks like a Spring beer.

Viper - Thanks for the recommendation on Weyerbacher - Blithering Idiot. I'll try to find this at Southern Spirits.

PDLJUNKIE - Schlafly Saison Ale, Will try that one soon, unfiltered and Belgium in one sentence, must be tasty.

Daniel - Any tasting of the home brew? The thought of home brew did cross my mind, maybe I need to hook up with you lot the next time to observe.

I love DT.  It's my favorite brew so far.  Total Wine in Huntersville sells it in the big and small bottles.

Delerium Tremens is not my favorite.  Not a huge fan of the belgian yeast flavor.

Taste the homebrew?  Well, the New Year's day batch is gone.  The last batch isn't drinkable until at least next weekend.

I might be persuaded to open up the next brew session.  Perhaps we'll do a bike and brew.  Look for it in a month or so.

I need to start brewing again . . . below is my boiling vessel.  I had a steel fab guy help with the lid.  Lots of good ales were brewed in it about 10 years ago.  I think I got tired of all the cleaning and sanitizing involved.

Dwright,
Did you use that copper as a chiller or did you have some sort of RIM system?

It is a chiller and the paddle helps with that.  The top connections for attaching a garden hose are not shown.

The shipping fees just puts me off. Like I said I'll be stopping by the Catawba Valley Brewing Company, spoke to the owner last week and he was one keg of this stuff remaining from last years batch. I haven't tried the Maui version but the roasted coconut infusion has peaked my interest. Will probably bring back a growler this weekend if anyone is interested. Anyone heading to Ca anytime soon, please bring back some Maui Coconut Porter.

I couldn't make it to The Liberty last week for the La Chouffe. Did anyone go and try this beer on tap? Probably try for this Friday again.

Opened up a Dog Fish Head Panagea:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
ABV 7.0 IBU 28
Our list of worldly ingredients includes:
Crystallized ginger from Australia
Water from Antarctica
Basmati rice from Asia
Muscavado sugar from Africa
South American quinoa
European yeast
and North American maize

Very refreshing.

CriticalMass - Looking forward to another beer ride soon. Thanks Sean for the last one.

I like IPA's and Scottish Ale. I'm curious about the New Belgium Ranger IPA. They never seemed to deal in the hoppy beers, but lets see if they can keep up their recipe for good flavor. I tried Oscar Blues Gorden a couple weeks ago. Kinda pricey ,but Really nice flavor. I'll keep it in mind for a special occasion beer. Mooresville Beer says they are coming out with Frostbite and Scottish ,the 1st week of February. I somehow got a bad batch of IPA from them. And they gave me a new case in exchange for an 11 pack. Pretty cool Smiley
