$10,000 REI grant for the Itusi Trail @ LNSP

Print Post
Just got word that we were awarded $10,000 from REI for the Itusi Trail.  Chip, the Pineville store manager, nominated us for this award and I submitted the paperwork.  The check was physically in Chips hand and he was mailing it off the Frankie yesterday.

This grant will be used to pay for mechanized building of the other side of the current Laurel Loop.  This should add about 3 miles to Laurel and will be built in a similar style to the rest of Laurel.  We are still waiting for the state to approve the MOA and then we'll get started.

Big thanks to REI and we hope to see ya'll out building some trail this fall.

When I was a kid, I prayed for a bicycle.  When I learned it didn't work that way, I stole one and asked God to forgive me...

Yea, thanks to Jeff for coming to the rescue and getting our application in to REI when we needed it.

In case anyone's lost count, this is the fourth grant that REI has given directly to the Trailblazers:

2007 - $5,000 for heavy equipment repair and new tools
      2008 - $5,000 for Southwest Park Trail
2009 - $7,000 for Fisher Farm Park Trail Extension
2010 - $10,000 for Lake Norman State Park

Our local REI stores have also donated funds and Navarro bikes to the Dirt Divas for several of their projects.

Last and not least, whenever we ask the local REI associates to help us with some trail work, they come out IN FORCE and they come to WORK. Both the organization and their staff are true enthusiasts; they really walk the walk!

THANK YOU REI!!!

Definitely appreciated!

Also:
-2006 Lowe's Home Improvement $15,000 for Ditch Witch
-2006 Duke Energy $20,000 for Volvo
-2005 Adopt a Trail grant $5,000
-2005 REI trail care kit

All the above were for the Itusi Trail

-2010 Lowe's $250,000 for Carolina Thread Trail, Iredell County

There is money available, we just need to chase it.

In addition to my mountain bike habit, I spend alot of time backpacking in the mountains. There are lots of cybersites that offer equipment and supplies at a lower cost than REI, but every time I need to make a purchase I remember the contributions REI has made to our club, as well as to the community as a whole. I also remember the days REI employees put their a^^ in the grass and cut trail with the rest of us. Thank you REI for what you do. Smiley

REI is awesome, I buy almost all of my backpacking gear there, you can't beat the warranty, they just let me exchange a backpack there without any questions after I tore a couple holes in it at Yosemite this year.

And you just can't say enough about the financial support and volunteer support they have shown our trails.

Many thanks to the volunteers that made this grant and all the previous ones possible. Without them we would have NO trails

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

Great.  I vote for cooler weather to work in.  The last work day at FF was brutal.

Some "friends" ride me for buying REI when they know a thousand other places to get stuff cheaper. I have had no quality issues, the gear works, great help from staff and the donations. You get what you pay for and REI puts its money where its mouth is.
