The annual Tarheel Trailblazer cookout is this Saturday May 5th at Col Francis Beatty Park! Come out and enjoy a ride on the 6 mile, beginner friendly trail and plan to stay afterward to hang out and eat with other fellow mountain bikers. This is a family friendly event and all abilities are most welcome even those who have never tried mountain biking and want to know what it is all about. There will be group rides of all levels throughout the four hours and a grilled lunch will be provided (while quantities last) courtesy of the Tarheel Trailblazers. Feel free to bring a friend and don't forget a chair to sit in and enjoy your food!

Location: Colonel Francis Beatty Park (4330 Weddington Road) in the pavilion by the playground
Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Who: Open to all
Cost: FREE to the public - Sponsored by the Tarheel Trailblazers
Contact: Craig Watts @ 704.953.5054 or Emily Watts @ 704.763.0026

This year's picnic will be at Shelter 1, not near the basketball like in the past years.  Shekter 1 is close to the hall and the lake.

Weather forecast right now looks great for the ride and cookout this Saturday. I'm lopking forward to checking out some of the trail work that's being going on since my last trip to Beatty, which has been a year or two ago I think.

It was a good time at Beatty today. Thanks to Emily, Craig, Brian, and all the others that volunteered to make the cookout a really nice event.

It's been two years since I last did the Colonel it's such a long haul for me, and I could really tell Gravitythief and crew have done some awesome work out there. My favorite kind of trail is tight twisty rooty urban stuff, so I had a blast on the three laps my wife and I did.

And just for the record, I like all the roots.

Just wanted to add to what Edward said in that I really appreciate all the volunteers that came out and helped today. I could not have done it without you guys so your efforts are very much appreciated!

This was a fun event and I hope there are more coming.  It was nice meeting people, eating, and even riding a bit.
