Sorry, couldn't resist. Rode the fruit loop today and it is sweet. If you ever thought to yourself "Renni needs a nice, swooping downhill with a series of moderate, sustained climbs to get back" then brother your wish has been granted. Thank you to the two or three people who made it possible. As for the rest of us -let's at least help pack it down!

I agree. Thanks Jack, Rocky and to the few others for their hard work. Nice to have something to mix it up a bit.

I plan on checking this out today.

Where exactly is this loop at? Tennis courts side loop or softball fields?

Also, with the recent increase of break-ins at Renni, has anyone found secure locations to park?  The last thing I need after a good ride is to come back and have a window smashed out.  It'd make me feel a bit better if I could catch em in the act so I can snap a neck, but that isn't the case 99% of the time.

I like riding Renni, but it seems with each new week the trail becomes more ghetto...

If the break-in situation doesn't improve, I'll no longer ride there.

Suggestions for (more) secure parking?

New(old) Loop is across the entrance to the Farmers Market Entrance (Yorkmount).  Look for a trail off to the right when you get near there ride across the entrance along the raod and look to you left you will see then entrance.   Its a good piece of trail and already packed in.

As far as parking Oden got me to park at Jock and Jills ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links))
and then ride in to the softball side.  Last time as we rode in cops where there writing up a report for a MTN Biker who's SUV got broken into.  I think some others have a buisness behind Reni where you can park.

...the tennis court lot has broken glass in a lot of the parking spots.  Definitely a sign of the parking situation...

I was thinking of parking here:

Renaissance Charlotte Suites Hotel
2800 Coliseum Centre Drive
Charlotte, NC 28217

As close to the lobby entrance I can without getting towed...

From where you describe the fruit loop, I might be able to jump right in on it coming from here.  Dunno....

Just park at the office park directly behind the softball fields.  Off Yorkmont, Parkway Plaza Blvd.  There's even a trail through the hedges.

JR. just park like what his name said by the business center and ride down the rd till you hit Farmer's market  and as soon as if you would be turning in it is on the right, right behind the sign almost or better yet call me.

Actually found a really good place to park. There is a business park right next to where the collesium used to be. Buddy and I parked there, went in at the gates, went down the gravel road, and stayed left to where the is a washout/creek area. There is a hole in the fence right there that basically puts you right on fruit loop. So that's where we went in and exited. Weather was beautiful. Fall is finally here....  Great job on the fruit loop. That does need to be made directional. When we came back to fruit loop off the main loop, i hung right and enjoyed a great downhill, but almost collided with a biker coming at me. Looking at both "downhill" lines, I'd say doing fruit loop counterclockwise gives a better experience, plus the left switchback into the climb is a good test. Great work to the trailbuilders involved!

I just checked out the Fruit Loop this morning- it was a great ride in both directions. I tracked milage at 0.6 for one loop, which makes it easy to loop several times.

I usually hit up the Renaissance trails before work when I can, but you would never know about the Fruit Loop from the main trail.  Best way to get to the new loop from the main trail is to take the Softball Field Loop until it starts bordering the road (Yorkmont) and then keep looking to your right for an out-path when you can actually see the Farmer's Market sign through the trees.  As previously stated on this thread, the Fruit Loop entrance is on the left after you cross over the street entrance to the Farmers Market.

I found the trail today...nice lil addition to the Renni loop. If you don't catch any cars at the entrance you can keep a pretty good pace  Wink

can someone tell me where this is off of the normal trail? Not from a backdoor gravel road or hole in the fence point of view? Is it on the softball side or volleyball side?

Ride the main Softball loop trail. About half-way there's a little trail exit on the right that takes you to where the entrance to the Farmers Market meets that main road. Take this and you'll see the new loop entrance on the other side of the Farmers Market entrance, facing the main road. Then, enjoy.

Robbie, it is on the softball side, after the rooty ruted climb, after pump station reroute (you might not have been in town long enough to know this), and right before the gravel storm drain pit, there is a sharp left curve.  There is a short trail there on the right that will take you directly to the sign for the farmers market (you can see the sign from the main trail).  Go across the entrance and continue in the grass beside the road (Yorkmont). About 10 - 15 yards past the entrance you will see the trail on the left.  This is the entrance and exit.

I remembered reading about third loop at Renni and was able to find this thread. Appears to be close to the Farmer's Market entrance.

Is it still active?

Would like to know before i go out to Renni tomorrow or Sunday.

There is a recent post around here somewhere saying it is closed until further notice while discussions with the farmers market manager are going on.
