Help Wanted - Duke Energy's outdoor event for kids

I received this email from Christine Pulley, Communications Representative from Duke Energy.  They are hosting an outdoor children's event, and want to know if the Trailblazers would like to set up a display.  Do we have any volunteers?  If so, please post up you will take the lead, and contact her this week so she can include us in the adverstising.  Thanks!

Duke Energy will be hosting an outdoor event for children on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McGuire Nuclear Station's EnergyExplorium in Huntersville. The purpose of the event is to allow children to learn more about the outdoors through interactive activities and sports. In addition, some of our exhibitors will be providing educational tips on the environment and conservation. We will be offering fishing, rock climbing, archery, etc. I was wondering if the Tarheel TrailBlazers does any type of outreach whether activity-related or educational that could help our children get excited about being outdoors and biking. Our outdoor space is very large and we could provide you with tents, tables, chairs, etc. We can easily hold thousands of people so providing you with a large enough space would be fine. Please let me know if there is any way you could help. Duke Energy would love to partner with you guys and get more involved with the department. Thank you.

I can't help on this, but here are some ideas to maybe get someone more interested:

It would be really nice to do something with Duke. They are a huge local booster and we really should develop a relationship with them.

It's hard to show kids about mountain biking if they haven't brought their own bikes. However, one thought would be to do a demonstration with skills apparatus. Have both one or more kids and skilled riders demonstrate. It sounds like there would be plenty of room. Have info about the trails, the Dirt Divas, and absolutely about the new local kids racing league that was recently started. Could coordinate with Trips For Kids if they are not already involved.

Like always, we just need someone to run with it. I bet the PASA guy(s) who do the skills clinics would be willing to help too. They (one guy) has the apparatus. Be a good opportunity to work with them/him again too.
