BIKE! Charlotte Ride to the Mayor's Ride
04/11/13 at 2:01pm
Print Post
With (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) kicking off on Friday April 26th, join us for the official "Ride to the Mayor's Ride."  Wait, what?  What's the Mayor's Ride?

From the website:

Seize the opportunity to show support for cycling in Charlotte!  Ride and mingle with the Mayor, City Council Members, County Commissioners and other local politicians. It’s a short ride but one of the most important you could ever participate in, if you support cycling in the Queen City! Free breakfast provided by Lola's will follow at the The Wells Fargo Plaza on Tryon St.

Start Location: Dowd YMCA (400 E. Morehead St.) in the parking lot behind the YMCA
End Location: The Plaza @ Two Wells Fargo (Tryon St)
When:  Friday, April 26th
Time:  7:30 AM

Who Participates: Open to Everyone
Cost:  FREE
Contact:  Ken Tippette @ ktippette@ci.charlotte.nc.us or 704.336.2278 or Neal Boyd @ nealboyd@charlottesportscycling.com or 704.503.0138

Although the ride starts at the Dowd YMCA at 7:30, the Tarheel Trailblazers and the Dirt Divas have been meeting beforehand the last few years to ride as a group to the event start.  It's a great way to show the folks here in town who we are, and riding in a group is always fun.

Once again, this year's Ride to the Mayor's Ride will depart from QueenCity Bicycles at 7:00 a.m. sharp (so arrive a little early to socialize and get ready), and we'll travel a short distance through the Dilworth neighborhood to the Dowd YMCA to meet up with other cyclists from all over Charlotte.  Bart has allowed us to meet at the shop, and I will lead our group to the event.

It's a short ride to show the people (and leaders) of Charlotte how important bicycling is in our area, so you don't want to miss it.

It will make a huge impact for the clubs if we show up as a large group, so please remember to wear your club jerseys (Tarheel Trailblazers or Dirt Divas) so we can be easily recognized.

If you have any questions, you can reply to this post or send me a PM.  Also, it would be nice to see how many of you will be there, so please post up if you will attend.

Remember, this is all free, and you get a little exercise to start your day!

Thanks in advance, and I hope to see you all there!

Chris Muddiman

OUR WHOLE FAMILY WILL BE THERE THIS YEAR!!!!  That's right.  Two adults on bikes, and two toddlers in a double trailer.  They have already asked, "Can we bring toys?"  We will plan to be there for the QCB start.

Was that the Fishers Farms Bites sticker, or one of his fleeting sponsors that isn't one of your vendors?  Grin

I contacted Chris (Chico) Fernandez so he's comin' too. It's perfect for anyone who works uptown or nearby.

Who else? Bring your Trailblazer jersey and let's let the roadies know we are there. No promises, but Bart (or was it someone else) provided coffee service at Queen City last year.

It's early, but weather looks pretty good too.

I just had a work trip change to Thursday/Friday, so I won't be in town for this.  Get some good pictures with the Mayor and people in Trailblazers jerseys so we can post that up on our website.

Well folks, tomorrow is the big day.  I can't wait to see everyone bright and early at Queen City Bicycles.

Remember, get there with enough time to be ready to roll at 7:00 a.m.  And don't forget to wear your club jersey.

See ya there!

Chris

Bike trailer is set up and ready to roll!  Took 'em for a "test ride" (first time to have two-at-a-time in the trailer) on Sunday, and it was a symphony of "WHEEE!" and "BEEP! BEEP!"  I think they like it.

Roll at 7:00? Jeesh! Only takes 5 minutes to coast to the Y. THINK about it .... then we'd have to hang and actually talk to all those roadies while waitin' for the big cheese to roll in at 7:30 ...

Just sayin'.

Wink

Who else is coming? Come on.... As Neal says, this really should be considered the most important ride of the year! And he's not talkin' about the free breakfast and T-shirt.
