I looked him up on LinkedIN, and he is an AVP for Wells Fargo Advisers. uh, regrettably, I am 3rd linked to him (friend of a friend of a friend).  I wonder what his employer would think of his vlog post?

Wouldn't THAT be fun to find out! Shocked

I like how he does many of his videos while driving.  Guess that's safer than riding your bike in the lane...WTH?!  Huh

I have to say I just watched the first half, but I agree with the guy up until that point. I can't stand road bikers who want it both ways. If you're gonna take a lane and act like a car, don't then blow past stopped cars, don't run red lights and stop signs. And then wonder why people hate you. And especially don't go on your huge weekend group rides on major roads (or any roads really, twisty back ones are equally as dangerous) and ride two, three, four wide. Flame on.

Doesn't That Guy Have Rights?
Of course he does. However, his rights end when they impede on the rights of others.
As Providence Road is a public highway, all persons have the right to use it at normal speed. By impeding traffic, he infringes on the rights of others.

copied from his website. Since when was "driving" a "right".

And sir.....you driving on the road is impeding my right to ride my bike on the road.

The guy on the bike has a right to use the road. However, the guy has a very valid point at the red light. He is giving everyone who commutes on a bike a bad name when he blows through that intersection. Because there are going to be a lot of people sitting at that intersection thinking the same way this guy does. I see it happen all over the place where guys are blowing through red lights and passing cars at intersections stopped for them. It doesn't help the cause. Once in Pittsburgh I saw a guy on a bike blow through a red light and cars had to stop for him. When they blew the horn at him his response was to flip everyone off. That makes for great bike advocacy.

Charlotte really should have more bike lanes, especially with as congested as roads like Providence Rd. get in the morning.

You need to rethink your friends, if they make friends who make friends like this..  Undecided

He posted this on Twitter BTW:

Eric Cable ‏@EricCable 25 Apr
People who obstruct traffic with their bicycles should shampoo my crotch.

All those in favor of sending it to the compliance folks over there at Wells Fargo brokerage???

Heh heh heh.

Good thing he doesn't live/drive in a city like New York or San Francisco with all the messengers. He would probably have an aneurism in traffic

It is common for drivers to not like cyclists on "their" roads, but to be so worked up about it as to create a website and start a petition?  This dude's got way too much time on his hands.

I don't understand what is going on in the cyclist's head either.  Riding Providence at rush hour strikes me as both very unpleasant and unsafe.

Hey wait a minute.

This looks to me like a contempt fest.

And what does that solve? Not much.

Let's see, this guy gets a new vid camera, is virtually talentless, but desperately wants to post videos on YouTube. So the best he can come up with is airing his daily frustrations for the whole world to see.

Not sure I see a problem. He has the right to his opinion. And although his opinion isn't necessarily positive towards the biking community at large, nor is the comment about bicycles being restricted to sidewalks a thought worthy of consideration, still his opinion has some merit.

And TwoNeener and Locomoto nailed it.

Providence Rd. is heavily congested and needs a system of bike lanes. And the cyclist either has a death wish, or had one too many down at the local pool hall.

Yep, I missed your post.

My speed reading isn't what it used to be.

My apologies. Your point makes a lot of sense and I've seen it both ways.

I'm not insulted when somebody doesn't appreciate the fine art of bicycling. I consider it mainly ignorance on their part. Somewhat reckless on the part of bicyclists that think it's a good idea to confront the 'road problem' by being obnoxious towards somebody, with suspect driving and cognitive skills, piloting a 4000 lb. vehicle.

Couldn't agree more.  I consider myself very bike friendly (although I don't ride the road) but find myself slightly irritated trying to pass 25 folks riding 2-3 deep spread out a quarter mile.  Just no safe way to get by without going WOT.  And when you do gun it to try and safely pass, the fingers come out quickly.  Not a hater by any means but often wonder how there are not more Specialized hood ornaments.

Look, we all agree the guy is a tool. That being said, there's nothing wrong with being a "gun nut" or an "Obama hater," and I had to look up "Jenna Marbles" but, to be honest, she's not that bad looking.

Don't go labelling people who like all the amendments of the Constitution "nuts" just because this guy is an idiot.

And if you want to continue to support the second worst president we've ever had (sorry Carter) then that's your right. Thanks to him and his disregard for the aforementioned constitution, the NSA is probably reading this right now.

If you think the NSA has anything to do with any president and that they haven't been monitoring everyone for decades, you are sadly mistaken. As far as the constitution, it is a living document and needs to change and evolve as society does.

Besides, Bush 1 and 2 were the 2 worst presidents. Wink Flame on! Smiley

... and there's a defined process to amend it, as the need was foreseen by the founders. Instead, we get the current pResident (and many before him) confusing the powers of an Emperor, and those of an elected public servant.

I'm confused.

Are you guys saying Obama is the guy in the white helmet, or that it's his fault that traffic sucks in Charlotte, or that he should call out the drones on bicycle boy?

I'm not fond of group road rides around here because many don't split up large groups like they should, or don't bother enforcing stricter "hold your line" strategies.  I can be on the bike and still feel bad for all the cars trying to pass because half the group are riding like asshats.  Any group bigger than 10 needs to split up, or go ride in the boonies of Union County where you see one car every 5-10 minutes.

Angry

I only mentioned the first two because they fit the stereotype of people who also typically get very vocal in their anti-cyclist views, much like this dude.  And Jenna Marbles because she's a comedy channel that typically does well with younger girls...  I'm sorry that you take offense to others' points of amusement.

I never watched any of Jenna Marbles' videos, so I didn't get the reference. I did see where she has a Master's from Boston University.

I never saw the correlation between being pro-second amendment and "hating on cyclists" - I think you'll find a lot of mountain bikers on the forums are also responsible gun owners (some of whom concealed carry on the trails - lawfully).

Nor do I think that Obama supporters are necessarily "pro-cyclists," I imagine you'll find a lot of them doing "other" things... Not cycling.

But let's not miss the point - the guy is a tool, regardless of his political views. And we can agree that that is a point of amusement.

I'm confused.

Are you guys saying Obama is the guy in the white helmet, or that it's his fault that traffic sucks in Charlotte, or that he should call out the drones on bicycle boy?

I think Eric Cable would like that....

Seems like this guy has backed down... a little.

Interesting point...

Bicycle Boy is now using Randolph on his way home.  BTW: He's quite old for a "boy."

He's also having an effect on traffic already.  The other day on my way home, a car up ahead of me started scooching towards the curb to block any inside moves.

Meh... now he's angering my fellow daily commuters.

I should mention that I don't pass stopped traffic by skirting around cars just to get to the front of the light when it turns green only to have the very same cars have to pass me again.
