Heading to Brevard soon for a vacation with the family. Been up before to Dupont and Pisgah. 2 things: 1. And specific hikes outside of Dupont or Pisgah you'd recommend (all difficulties)? 2. Any restaurants (not super expensive) that you would recommend in the area?

Ready? Go...

Eat at the square root:

Usually some decent music there as well...And real good food/Atmosphere....Not sure why you would want to hike outside of Pisgah/Dupont though.....Hundreds of miles of trail....

We've been up there the past couple years and have done all the major sights either biking or hiking. My parents wanted to travel up there (we were wanting to head up more towards boone, but when the 'rents say they'll pay, you go where they want!). We'll probably spend most of our time in the 2 parks, just curious to see if there was anything out there that we've just really been missing out on. Smiley Thanks for the food recommendation!

I'm up for any suggestions. My parents are in their 60's but still fairly spry.

El Ranchero inside Brevard is also a good mexican place.

IMO Brevard is seriously lacking in the mid-range (not real nice, but not mexican food) type places.  It seems you kind of have to choose one or the other.

Stop by Food Matters Market and get a sandwich for lunch one day though, they are awesome!!  Just make sure you aren't in a hurry, because if you are you'll get really annoyed.

Square root has been having some groupon promotions recently.
$20 gets you 40.

Having grown up in Hendo, I can second this suggestion.

Hikes? If you've never been to Bridal Veil Falls in DuPont, that's a nice easy hike with a cool destination.
