Has anyone riden URE recently?  Are there still many trees down after the storm, or is it rideable now?

Thank you

Not sure if Uwharrie has been touched, but Morrow Mtn State Park, which is more popular is still closed...

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

Rode it today and it's still in very bad shape.  Some clean up has started on keyauwee but we have a long way to go.

Rode yesterday - 1st half of Key (starting counterclock-wise) was pretty clear of big items. Hit MASSIVE damage + debris after that and ended up turning around after 2 hours of riding, climbing, clearing. We got about 1/2 the debris (smaller trees), but there are some really, really big trees down. A large chainsaw was not part of my toolkit.

Trail from campsite to road just below trail head was better - a few trees down, but mostly passable.

Woodrun was OK for a mile or two - someone had chainsawed their way through many of the obstacles.

Summary - lotsa clearing, some riding, needed a chainsaw

New update.

Dear Uwharrie Trail User,

This is an update to the storm damage and cleanup that has been completed on the Uwharrie WoodRun Trail System.

UTC and the Forest Service have been clearing the trails for you to enjoy riding, running, and hiking on the trails.

Thank you to those of you that have assisted with moving debris off the trail.

The process has required work with chainsaws which according to forest service guidelines, you must be certified to use a chainsaw on forest service property. (If you are interested in this training please let us know and we will do our best to coordinate a training date with the forest service)

The forest service has done a great job of responding to the storm with limited resources.  UTC suggests that if you are to come out to Uwharrie to enjoy the trails please work with us to move the cut timber off of the trail and to be very aware of loose limbs above the corridore.

Please see the map below which shows how far we have gotten.

We will be out working this Sat June 29th (weather permitting) from 9-2pm. (Contact - Brian Bristol 704-438-5663 for more info)

If you would like to assist in the clean up with us please feel free to join us in the upper woodrun parking lot (blue fj cruiser).  If you can not attend please do help move the cut timber off the trail.

The clean up has proceeded a little further.  I was able to ride to Whitetail and the first .75 miles of white tail.

Then I did a half hour of clean up, turned around and rode back to my car.  I think if everyone does a little we will get the trail back before fall.  Next time I go out I will have a machete with me.

I was able to put together 11ish miles without having to go over any dropped trees (including connector and fireroads).

Had a great ride at Uwharrie today.

Connector is in very ridable shape.

Keyauwee was good for the first 3ish miles clockwise.

The fireroad is clear for also 3.5ish miles from to outhouse.

We put together 16.5 miles riding the above as out and backs and doing the connector 2x.

If you go out, please move a stick or two to help.

I have requested more info on the chainsaw course/permit.  Hopefully this is possible for me to fit into my schedule.

My son and I rode Supertree this morning. I counted 24 trees over the trail. We were able to move one but the rest need a chainsaw. The trail was otherwise in pretty good shape.
