This place is a breeding ground for hate.

No. This place is a target for hate.  You're looking in the wrong place. Wink

I feel bad for people that live on the north west.  Rains all the time there, they must never ride.  Roll Eyes

Yeah, and they also elevate a lot of their trail and have a different soil composition.  But you already knew that...

Those 'blokes' across the pond also armor the &^&^ out of their trails with stone/rock so they can actually ride.

I bought mt first Mountain Bike in 1987. I still had a couple of years to ride almost anything that my freedom allowed me to do. Hiking trails, service roads, gravel roads. Wet or dry. Then the naysayers stepped in and started closing the trails. We fought back with organizations to keep trails open and to be able to build and maintain our own. Nc State parks let us(for some reason, we are not looked upon as regular residents on NC) build trails in their(our) parks. I can understand the reasoning for managing the trail to keep it available to all users. But,what is the point of keeping a trail closed for 3 more days after a rain event. Monday ,I was walking on the Adler trail, and cut through the wood to the Laurel Connector trail. It was the same condition as it was when I rode on Sunday. Damp. I truly don't believe the trails are managed in a good manner. If you choose to close 30+ miles of trail . Then you should base it on more info then water collecting in certain parts. I look at closing a trail for multiple days as being a trail closer similar to the trail closers of the early 1990's . It's showing what is LNSP largest user group how they take our intelligence for granted. But anyways, the fight is gone from me, and I am no longer interested. I'm sure there are some dirt roads somewhere............

so why not invest some of those megabux the club has in armoring material or elevated trail surfaces or whatever they do in every other place mentioned instead of paying for robots and companies so that its own members will quit whinig every time it rains more than half an inch?

The problem really is a lack of man/woman power in the NC State park system.  There are only 2-3 rangers at most at LNSP and are responsible for more than just making sure they survey all 30 miles every time it rains. I know it sucks not being able to ride and I know you think it's horribly unfair to you but unless you have enough money to give to the park to hire a few more people to manage the park, you are stuck with what we've got.  Yes, they are over zealous in protecting that resource but I'd rather have that than the alternative.

There's no need to armor/boardwalk the whole trail.  It's not really a matter of trail durability because it's already proven to be durable with minimal maintenance. It's a matter of administration.  In a perfect world it would be open sooner after rains.

Guess what...the world ain't perfect.

Because you have no idea what you are talking about and most of the people whining are actually not club members.

Even if we board walked all 120 miles or so of trail there would still be someone finding something to whine about.  I guess you would call us the Tarheel Trailboardwalkers then. Tongue

it is not that they survey all 30 miles. From What I've witnessed being out there. Is that they survey the connector trail from the parking lot to the road, and use that as a basis to close 30 miles of trail.

I know it's been suggested before, but it's time to open the Hawk trail as an all weather trail. I would volunteer more to help keep certain smaller parts open so I can ride on dirt. Or I suppose I'll just have to find a cheap wheelset with low priced tires to ride the road. We all know that ain't gonna happen Roll Eyes
