RRT?

I am debating between RRT and pounding on the road bike.  Anybody down in Harrisburg got a report?

I haven't been to RRT, so that will be new... and I am not excited about another round on the skinny tires.  So I may have just answered my own question.... but I don't want to ride in a mud pit.  And if anyone is heading down there and wants to show a new guy around (who doesn't ride that fast) that would be good too....

I live in Statesville and I don't want to make the trek to rid in mud.

I just got a PM back from Watcher.  I am headed to RRT.  I should be there around 12:45 or 1.

Sorry for late response. Hard to tell how much rain we had last night maybe 1/3". Trail is open if you want to come down. Shouldn't be muddy other than a couple spots. Just stick with the wet bypasses. We just can't get a break on the rain. When it goes dry I bet it will be hot and miserable.

Loved the place.  I will definitely be back.  Next time I will bring my second set of lungs for the climbs... they are doable but to go fast up them definitely pushed me.  No Name was challenging with the turn right after the little kickup right after the bridge.  Wound up doing that one twice after I somehow got more than a little lost on the way out... wasn't sure which way to go after Ole Chunky part (which was great).  Right is not the right way there, I wound up down by the river in a really wet part... apologies to Watcher, but I was definitely really lost and just kept riding.  Wound up going back up No Name, thru No Name extension, and Ole Chunky again, and then hung a left and somehow rode out backward on the entry.  Need to go with someone who knows where they're going next time.  I was solo.

It was all in good shape except the part I wound up on down by the river... which I am not sure if I was even going the right way, and I'm pretty sure that's the part that I cut off with the shortcut during the first go round.

Sooooo.... what is the right way to go out of that place?  Which way to go after Ole Chunky when you get back to the atv road?

LOL, I did the same thing yesterday and I ride there often.  After 'Ole Chunky you turn right and go down a creek bed (fast) at the bottom you are suppose to take a right and I went left once I got down by the river I knew something was wrong and I turned around and the ATV trail crosses over the singletrack the last climb out of RRT is Steve's Stairway.  Probably going to be over there tomorrow afternoon for another lap.

Right after Chunky on the downhill, back into the woods, turn left and go up Stairway 2 Heaven Climb

Well... glad I did no name twice then.  I knew there were supposed to be three climbs, and I only did two... and I didn't realize I had screwed up until I got to No Name for the second time.

I ran into another guy at the 2nd wet bypass yesterday that did the same thing... He was like I would like to get back to my car at some point.  haha.  So Steve got 3 of us in 2 days!!! GRRR!!!

All good though.  I was so happy just to be in baggies and on knobbies today, instead of mandex and skinnies for the 1238021983091283th day in a row.

I'll be back to RRT.  A bit of a hike for me, but worth it.  Steve/Watcher has built a hell of a trail down there... just wish he'd build another one just like it in... say... Statesville.

Actually four climbs: River Climb, Gorge Climb, No Name Climb and Stairway to Heaven Climb.

Ah well.  Three, four, what's one climb between friends.

Either way... I'll be back.  Awesome trail.  Can't wait to ride it when it's drier and I can run the whole thing.

Sounds like I will have to put up some more directional arrows.  Smiley

Also had a rider take a bad fall on the Valley Bridge today. If I understood him correctly he let conditions slip up on him a bit and hit it kinda hot and the wet treated lumber didn't hold his tires. Asked me to put up a warning/reminder sign. I plan on using Mark's sand combined with paint if the weather ever permits me. Of course if the trails dry how do I keep everyone from riding through wet paint? I guess I'd just have to post it closed that day.

Update on the new section I think it will have a different character all its on. I still have quite a bit to do. Should be ready late fall maybe. Estimated to be about 3/4 mile addition  and about 200' elevation change.

Yeah, I ran into that guy at the parking area (assuming you mean the guy in the Clif Bar kit).  Luckily he passed along that the valley bridge was slick.  I actually slipped on it just trying to walk across.

I got bit by the Ole Chunky mistake yesterday as well...ended up climbing No Name twice.  Ran into DrewK on his way out - thanks for the tip, I managed to avoid going down to the river, but missed the left to Stairway climb.  Watcher you have done a great job out there...that trail is sweet!

Steve, could you clarify which bridge is referred to as the Valley Bridge? Is the bridge at the base of the Gorge Climb or is it the smaller bridge about a quarter mile earlier over a low spot in the trail? Just want to know where to take care if things are moist. Thanks.

Its the one where you are riding on a side hill then dive left across the bridge. Makes me nervous when its dry, but it is fun.

Well before the Gorge climb... Has the cut off foot laying in the right hand turn before it. (that should be a warning)

Not meaning to sound like a jerk but it is the bridge immediately after the sign that says Valley Bridge Wink I have not looked lately maybe the sign is gone. Located like Enoch says.
