Saw two or three fellow riders out there today. Third full day with no rain and the trail is definitely recovering. Still a few slick spots in the usual places but overall the trail has survived the monsoon season with no signs of permanent damage (except the man made one - where a few riders decided to widen the trail by creating a "shortcut" to bypass some muddy roots. The shortcut doesn't account for the terrain or flow, however, and actually probably takes longer). Probably not anyone on here anyway.

Go out and ride Renni.

Anyone have an update today?  It was sunny at my work all day (about 3 miles away), but my girlfriend works in Gastonia and got hit with rain pretty hard and the clouds are telling me it's coming this way.

Had about a 5 minute medium/heavy shower about 5:30 pm Monday in Southern end of Steele Creek.   Then it cleared up for the rest of the evening.

Few really muddy spots today but they were very concentrated areas; overall the trail seemed pretty well dried out.

Agreed - the trail was in relatively good shape. There was one long stretch of mud that darn near wiped me out on the softball loop in the usual spot where the trail comes near Yorkmont Rd. Barely got a foot down in time (on the bright side, it would've been a soft landing).

A few sketchy spots, but so far people seem pretty good about trying to keep in the same tread and avoid widening the trail. What's the best practice there? I just try to avoid making "new" ruts.

Didn't rain here on Monday night (about 5 or 6 miles away), otherwise I probably would have skipped it.

Anyone have an update to share?

There was some good rain fall last night in southern part of Steele Creek.

We road after the race was cancelled and made almost 2 laps before the bottom fell out last night.

I rode both loops yesterday 7/25 around 6pm

Volleyball side has several slop spots in the low areas.

Softball side has the usual muddy spots and is the dryer of the two loops.  Softball loop does have one really sloppy spot in the curve that is up next Yorkmont rd.

Short track is good to go.

Rode Renni this evening after work.
Trail was Primo.
Maybe a half dozen damp spots but overall very tacky and fast.

Thanks for the update JR - it got me out there today.

I agree. Renni is almost at 100% and the trail rides great. The muddy spots are getting narrower and you can avoid almost all of them without widening the trail. There is still that one spot I mentioned in an earlier post; it's about five feet long and three feet wide and is sheer mud. Maybe a reroute or some trail work is in order. If anyone (Bhaus, etc.) has any ideas I'd be happy to lend a hand.

Go ride. The rain will be back soon.

I have some ideas on that section.  If anyone wants to meet this Saturday or Sunday to give it a go let me know.

Rode tonight 8/7 Softball and Volleyball loops are good to go.

Thanks to the crew that patched up the mud pit on the softball side.
