Hey,

As a relative newcomer to the sport (I've only been riding for four years, which is a beginner compared to many of you), I sometimes approach a section or feature without a good sense of how to tackle it properly.

Tonight is a case in point, with Blair's brainchild - the drop in gully at Renaissance. A great addition to a great trail, to be sure. Tonight I rode this option for the first time and, though I was able to ride through it, I did have a bit of a pucker moment when I realized going into it that my line (a) + my speed (b) + my posture (c) might very well equal (=) a trip OTB [a+b+c=otb]. And I realized that I really just didn't know how to ride this particular trail feature.

There are numerous examples I can think of (many of them are at BYT), and while I learn many by experience (even Sherman has the step up jump) I sometimes ride away feeling like if I had some insight into how to approach them I would (a) be more likely to try them (b) have more confidence when I did try them and (c) probably have a much more pleasant experience.

So my suggestion is this - would it be possible to dedicate a section of the website to video tutorials by local riders showing us how to tackle the features of the local trails? For example, Blair built the drop in gully, Blair has someone videotape him explaining the feature, giving some general tips, and then demonstrating how to ride it properly.

I know many of you don't "need" this type of advice. But for newer riders it might really help. It might also not hurt some of the veterans to brush up on some fundamentals.

What are we thinking?

It's a great idea if anyone is willing to tackle it.

I might suggest instead of a video tutorial, just post up on what sections or obstacles you or others may want some help with and I am sure folks would step up with advice or offers of in person guidance.

I think your equation a+b+c=otb is outstanding.

Do the Dirt Diva's still hold skills clinics?  Maybe one of those would be beneficial.
