"New" Trail at WWC

I had a great ride last night with the Carolina Trail Run & Mountain Bike Group ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links))

We rode Lake Loop to warm up and then we rode the "East" trail at WWC.  I had ridden it once about a year ago but not even sure if it was fully open at that time, but it is now.  It is a REALLY fun trail with some great technical spots, some real fast spots, and some decent little climbs.  I don't know if a lot of people know that the trail is even there, but it is worth the ride. Just wanted to pass that along.

Carolina Thread Trail off the north end of Figure 8 is good too... little muddy right now, but a nice out'n'back.  Fast.

We rode that first.  I rode that Saturday too and it was "damp".  We rode it again last night and it was much drier.  16 hours later, not so much I am sure.  8-(  The thread trail has great flow.

It is a flowmaster general approved segment.

Where is the entrance to this trail?  I've heard about it but haven't ridden it.

The best I can explain is the trail is between lake loop and the guard shack.  If you ride towards the back of the parking lot (the whitewater/climbing, etc. is behind you) and you make a left at the woods, ride down the gravel path, you will enter about half way down.  You will be riding towards the guard shack with the woods on your right before you enter.

I like that section too. Its got some interesting features on it and has sort of an unkempt feel to it (probably because no one rides it) that I like.

Yeah, there is some tight spots, some spots that you have to respect your pedal position, and some fast spots.  It is like a bad joke that when you are done and have exited the trail that you have that loose gravel uphill to the parking lot  Cool

Not on any maps that I've seen.  Thread trail isn't either.

it is at the very north end of the Figure 8 loop.  Right after the big dropoff that has an option of no-dropoff to the left (I think - don't quote me on that).  Hang a right where the trail splits off, there is a signpost that says 'Carolina Thread Trail' on it.  I think the post is blue with a little compass logo on it.

The maps at the WWC now show the East Main loop (and list the distance as 3.2 miles).  They sell them for $2, I think.  I have a PDF of it but not sure how to add to a post.

Rode East main yesterday. I was dying in the heat. But the trail was really rooty to me. Didn't help my hands where sweating bad, grips slippery and spinning on me.

this is a pretty fun trail IMO - surprised the amount of land it covers that they could not have gotten more mileage out of it.

KUDOS to the dude working in the WWC bike shop... I rode this trail Saturday along with the North, South, and Lake Loop and went back for more on Sunday. Got started on the East again and less than a mile in I broke my first chain ever... walked back to the bike rental place and he had me rolling in 15 minutes...   Smiley
