so i just stumbled upon the master rendering for the new sportsplex that is being built off Tank Town rd. I am befuddled at the 12 soccer fields proposed for the site. why 12? I assume that there were public meeting for this project so people could comment on and I had no clue they were even building such a thing. But i dont understand why 12 fields are needed.

Maybe someone could clue me into the whole situation. Did someone try to get a trail integrated into it? I see a "perimeter walking path", whatever that means.

Rant off Huh

5 soccer fields, 12 total athletic fields. Interesting, they're all going to be astroturf.

12 fields = 12x the money of renting 1 field. Organized athletics is big money. Ask any park and rec person where the majority of outside revenues come from. Ironic that childhood obesity rates have tripled at the same time as participation in organized athletics have quadrupled. But that's another topic all together.

historically Charlotte area has been starved for soccer practice, playing and tournament quality fields (Ramblewood is overworked and has no turf).  especially a venue(s) that are good for hosting tournaments.  Raleigh, Greensboro, W-S and over the line in SC have competing venues that host tournaments bringing in $ for local communities.  Turf is the way to go in that you can continue play on them in all but  the worst of conditions.  also, possibly will be a home for the Charlotte Eagles men and women's team.

Another interesting thing about this parcel of land, is that there are currently ride-able trials on this property. Albeit, they are more quad/4x4 trails, but I have ridden them many time when all else is closed.

I used to ride; now I just drink and cry about not riding.

Ever see FJB when there is a soccer tourney?  Place will be wall to wall cars and there are only a few fields.
