Once I get my cross build up and going ill be looking for some trails to hit. Is FF the only trail around with a cross course laid out? What about Riverwalk? Anywhere else besides greenway that would make a fun 'cross outing? Thanks!

Fisher doesn't have an official course laid out but there's plenty of mowed paths in the fields to ride.  I've seen a couple of people ride the green loop and some of the blue loops on cx bikes.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I thought I remembered having a loosely laid out course from a race a year or two ago. Will Neal be doing cross races this season? If so, are these "courses" just temporary for the local trails?

I thought you could ride a CX bike damn near anywhere. If you have the Ned Overend gene and mad skills!

Neal has the cross races at NM, but he sets up the course the day of the race. The race course is not on the trail, but around the ball fields and thru the grass areas close to the parking lot. I've seen people riding cross bikes on the trails at NM and LNSP. I even saw one guy riding a road bike on the trail at NM.

Out of curiosity how long would such a course need to be?

I have a some paths at RRT that I mow that are not part of the mountain bike trail. I had thought of including them into the trail as an optional easy loop or maybe a trials type loop with some kind of structures.

There is a CX course up in Denver that the guys at Blood Sweat and Gears have set up for their race.

Eastwood, those guys take riding pretty seriously so im sure their course would be pretty solid if i was ever up that way. Thanks for the heads up.

Steve, it would be awesome if you had the time to lay out a cross course! With my work schedule and all the rain i still havent had a chance to make it out and try out your work yet but its high on my list when i get a chance to get out. As for the course length, im really not sure so maybe someone more experienced can chime in. From what i understand, a relatively short course of a couple miles is just repeated for an hour, with whoever having the most laps in winning.

Riverwalk let us do training races out there a couple of years ago.  Their permanent course will not be started until the BMX track is finished- I don't think the grading is even finished yet.

I hope Neal will do his series- typically it's 4 weeknights in November.  NCCX starts 10/19 at Veteran's Park here in Charlotte.  There are 1-2 races every weekend across the state.

Most of the NCCX courses are setup in parks and schools, and are not permanent.  Marty is organizing a course at Cordelia Park (corner of Parkwood and N.Davidson).  It's a lot harder than you think to put together a place where you don't get run off for "tearing up the grass."

Steve, it would be awesome to have something at your place.  I don't know much about cyclecross or courses but I have a brand new bike hanging up in the garage needing someplace to be ridden.

Harrisburg Half Mile "single track"...along with it's grassy knoll & pasture "field", crushed gravel walkway's for the race or at least training combined..with bathroom's, cookout shelter & plenty of parking...mmmm, a little trail TLC & support from Harrisburg Park's & Rec, (which we have) Neal once used the area for a race of his..we could inquire.....

Not to hijack this thread, but what ever did happen to the structures at PT? There was talk about moving some of them...possibly to RRT.  There seemed to be a lot of momentum in that direction, but then I never heard anything else.

Thanks for the official criteria for such a course that was exactly what I was interested in. I could likely put a course together that would get the length but 10 feet wide I don't know. May could set up a practice course. To get to the upper end of the millage it would be necessary to intersect the mountain bike trail which I don't think would be good. Maybe if clear view in all directions. I'll look at it.

I have no idea about the structures at Poplar. I think the material was purchased with club money and assumed if relocated it would have been to an official trail like BYT. Rightly so I might add. Then again sometimes its just as easy to build fresh as to tear out and move.

PS. RRT is open today better this afternoon than this morning.
