Making a smart used road bike purchase

Looking to make a used carbon road bike purchase in the near future, but have not bought a used carbon bike before.  Is there anything I should be weary of compared to say an aluminum bike?  Obviously inspecting for cracks, but carbon bikes seem to have this stigma of being fragile.  There is a big cost savings buying used, but I don't want to buy a bike that will have a short life span.  Any advice?

Do research on the model your looking at.  Some bikes are more prone to fail than others.

I'm not afraid of carbon and on a side note, if you ever brake a carbon bike it is repairable (maybe not cost effective depending on the value of the frame).  When a aluminum frame fails, you usually chuck it.
