Yep Patches/Hutch broke his arm. Seemed he slipped on the bridge.

I just got off the phone with him he is ok. I believe the ulna was dislocated and the radius is going to require surgery and pins. He said that the trail had such great traction today it lulled him into not thinking about the bridges. We went ahead and put shingles on that bridge not my first choice of covering but the weather has not co-operated with painting with the sand mixture.

Hope he heals up quickly. Came upon him and Chris not long after it happened. He seemed a little dazed. Surgery and pins, huh? Ugh.

Approaching the one year mark of my slippery bridge experience. Was a strange reminder when i saw the medics show up out there today. In my experience, it's the little things that get you every time. Here's to a speedy, complete recovery.

I assume Valley Bridge.. and yea it rained last night so the bridges are slick even though the rest of the trail is in great shape...

I ate the dirt on that valley bridge today too.  I was the first one on the trail today and after a frustrating first lap (stopping to pull webs/spiders off of me every other minute) I was starting a fun fast second lap until I wiped out.

Thanks for adding some shingles on it....wish they had already been there.....Hope the guy gets well soon.  I cannot believe I did not get hurt worse than I did, even though I am pretty jacked up myself... Embarrassed

The irony is he rode with me down Heartbreak without a damn helmet and a little bridge at RRT takes him out.

Get well soon Mark.

That was quick. I got there about an hour (12:45) after they took him out, and the shingles were all on.  I kept thinking about it while I was riding, almost fixating. I'm lucking I didn't bust it as well.

Steve, I couldn't help but notice all the work you are doing on a new section right next to No Name.  I just hope that big railroad berm is on a decent.  Undecided  And speaking of wet bridges, I hope that rock hugging bridge down at the bottom is going to have a railing.

Great work going on out there. THANKS!!!

And everybody pay your $3 or more to help out with all the materials they are buying.

Yeah the railroad tie backed berm is on a hot descent. We are trying to come up with a guard rail/safety railing that does not interfere with the view and openness.

It would be awesome to have a wallride/berm type bridge down at the Valley Bridge. I still can't believe I didn't break anything other than skin the day I wadded it up there.

Greatly appreciate the folks walking me back to the car yesterday and looking out for me till the medics carried me away.  As Watcher pointed out, the little bit of moisture provided great traction on the trail.  Never thought about the treated lumber being slick so I took my normal approach at Valley Bridge and released the brakes about a third of the way down.  When the wheels rolled over the bridge, I immediately hit the deck without having a chance to respond.  Banged up the left side and right side of my body.  Clean break on the radius and dislocated the ulna at the wrist region of my right forearm.  The emergency room ortho doc was unable to reduce the dislocated ulna.  I have a consult with a hand specialist from Ortho Carolina tomorrow morning.

Hoping to get the surgery behind me so that I can take part in the fall riding season.  Having to learn to type with my left hand now, among other things.

Thanks again for the moral support from the mtb community.

See if you can see, Dr. Perlick. He fixed both of my wrists. Bad motorcross breaks. Do what they say,

there is a map on the Kiosk. If you decide to bail. Just go up a hill (Any of them) to the field and back to the lot.

I am the king of bail, and you can bail almost anywhere out there, like Enoch said, by just going up hill.  I used to think that PT was the most trail per acre around, but I think RRT has that.

Aww, man! Sorry to hear about that, M!  Gotta suck for sure.  At least you'll have time to hang out and drink beer at the shop on Saturday. Smiley

That sucks to hear about your break.  I've had several fractures over the last few years myself.  I highly recommend Dr. Rainbow of Sports Medicine and Injury Care.  She has helped me get back on the bike quickly.  She understands our need to ride and is super smart and personable.  Get well soon.
