Word on the street is that Neil is not doing it this year.  I'm in the same vote as you with a new Cyclecross bike hanging on the wall.

Hmmm I would volunteer my time to help coordinate/organize a race. I have no expereince doing so if there is anyone interested in taking the lead.

I have no experience running a race series, but I would be very willing to help (and race).

It's probably going to be next to impossible to organize a race and get to race yourself.  It takes a lot of work- I think Neal had 5-10 volunteers at every race.  Not to mention Parks and Rec (fees), registration, insurance, etc.  I would be in if someone got it together.

We get more people every week at Cordelia, and the course is riding in nicely.  Wed, 5-dark.  We've been hitting up Birdsong after.

First NCCX race will be Charlotte on 10/19 and there will be a new beginner category (5), so you shouldn't have to deal with sandbaggers who've been racing Cat 4 for 5 years.

Running a true race series can be very time consuming.  I ran a mountain bike series up in New England for a few years and it just took up all of my and two of my friends  free time.  Also as above the liability insurance, registration, park fees, dealing with USA cycle all add up.

Where is this Cordelia you speak of? I live up in Davidson, and I am new to this. I ride from my house to the cross country trails at Davidson College crushed gravel but I am looking for new places to ride. I really want to plan a trip to the mountains and ride gravel roads.

Never been there but I'd say this is it.

Cordelia Park
704-432-4280
2100 North Davidson Street

Also saw this on Charlotte Cyclocross FB Page.

CX Practice at McAlpine Creek Park, Tuesdays. Starting next Tuesday (9-16) I'm thinking 6-until. More info as it becomes available! BE THERE!

Also got this

5th annual Queen City cyclocross race; this year the race will be the season opener for the NCCX Series! Hup, Hup Hup. Don't miss it, tell you friends!
October 19th at veterans park.

Almost.  I can't remember the times but it's like between 1pm and 3pm during weekdays when you can't ride because they have cross country practice on the course.

As always, be aware and respectful of other users. Smiley

BTW it makes for a fun night ride when the trails are too wet! Smiley

Cordelia is at the corner of Parkwood and North Davidson.  A few people are meeting up at my place in Elizabeth and riding over if that's easier for anyone.  Message me if you're interested.

It's a good course- similar (tougher/more climbing) to what you'll see at NCCX.  Mountain bike trails, McAlpine, etc, are not ideal, fitness-wise for cross. Atmo.

Mark is right its a fun place to go ride there were many runners walkers and deer all over the place last night about 8pm. In repect for everyone else out there cant go too fast. Watch out for those deer jumping across the CC trail in sections.  I almost got clocked by 2 of them on a night right years ago! Bastards are out to get you!  Plus it's hunting season so their skeered anyways!!

Sucks I sold my CX bike. Would I be shunned upon riding my mountain bike at these events? Out casted? Avoided in circles of convo? I'd imagine in certain conditions it may be an advantage. It is rigid and SS though. Thoughts? If not, I'm coming

MTB's are certainly welcome.  Plus, you can bring lights and ride the MTB trails while you're there - either a pre-race warm-up or for extra riding after your CX race.

...and, maybe would could talk Neil into adding a SS class or MTB class to the first race.

for the NCCX race at Veterans Park, will that course be marked off for the day of event only? I assume it will be, and id like to come watch but ill be out of town this weekend. Will it be obvious where the course is run from the look of the grass and things afterwards? Id like to check it out sometime.
