This light just got way more expensive for me.

Turns out that they changed the hours at Lake James State Park December 1st and myself and a friend were cited for being in the park after hours (1 hour past closing time).

$215 Sad

No warning, just pay up. Smiley

Essentially they are denying access during the winter for those who have day jobs.

Shout out to kbark for the SL2K light.  I got mine over the weekend and put it to use for the first time last night at WWC.  It was my first night ride so I was anxious and hopeful that I wouldn't have any issues seeing the trail.  Suffice to say it is very bright and did a fantastic job.  I got it with the bar mount and coupled with my helmet light I had no issues seeing the trail or where I was going.  Highly recommend it if you are thinking of getting a light.

Long time user shoutout to Kbark. I have owned four lights, two since 2011ish and 2 since 2012ish.

background/usage:
My wife commutes daily on her bike, in Colorado, year round. Snow, rain, anything above zero degrees, she'll ride in it. For the portion of the year that she needs lights, which has already started this year, so mid Sept - Mid April I guess, she has used her ShartLight.

My usage is strictly riding to town/bar/grocery store etc. And the odd night mountain bike ride. So less frequent.

I had two lights that were showing some age, mostly around the battery case. The cold temps caused one to crack (it was still usable but not sure how much longer) and the other to start cracking. I contacted Kevin to see what he could do about it and a few weeks later I had my lights back in like new condition for a very reasonable fee.

So 5 years later, with what some would call "abusive" usage, the Shartlights are all still going strong, with minor repairs. Money well spent.

ps. They've also outlasted numerous blinkies and a few "cherrybomb" type rear lights.

If you can get one, get it.  I have 3 of them and use 'em all the time.  I run one on the front of the roadbike in the daytime and keep one with me during late evening rides at WWC.

He is still at it. I just talked to him a few days ago. I'd PM Kevin.

Will there ever be a trend towards less lumens/more yellow lights?   The current trend for more lumens coupled with the very blue/white light sucks.  Always feels like I'm riding in a haunted house.

To me the yellow, lower lumen, light feels much better in the woods...

Higher lumens means a brighter light, not the color of it which is a reflection of the temperature of the light.  So a lower temperature will make the light more yellow whereas a higher temp makes the light more blue.  I agree with you that once a light gets very white or bluish that it makes the trail look a little funny.  A little lower temp with a higher lumen rating is ideal IMHO.

UPDATE: Kevin was spotted this morning!  However he was neither riding his bike nor making bike lights but merely eating breakfast.
