Let me guess, was he driving a BMW or an Acura?

Heeeey - I drive both and I never cut off roadies.  Wink

As far as road riding, I bought a road bike earlier this year to combat the rain and closed trails.  I thought it would be an efficient way of getting in pedaling sessions.  IE no driving to ride and all that.

Turns out, I never ride it.  I like riding alone most of the time.  The few times I have ridden, I was surprised by how aggressive drivers actually are, and how vulnerable I feel when I'm out solo.

I'll still ride road once in a while, but only when conditions are 100% in my favor (with at least one person, off hours, roads with room/shoulders, etc).  So, in the end, it's *more* of a hassle to get on the road than MTN because, for me, I have all these stipulations I've set for myself.

I'd rather ride the trainer and skip the stress it puts on me to road ride.  I like to "zone out" when I ride MTN, I find it very relaxing and therapeutic.  I can't see myself getting to that point on the road, and honestly I don't think I want to.

I drive a little further for my road rides than for my mountain bike rides.  Riding out from your house may be convenient, but convenient is not necessarily safe.  Few of us are lucky enough to have a road friendly route out our driveway.  I have one I am pretty comfortable with, but enjoy riding with others so much that I rarely take it.  I still opt for a mountain bike ride 3 out of 4 times, but come winter, the roadie will get it's workout.  I think the most important factors are riding in a group, picking a safe route, and time of day.  There are tons of safe road riding options if you are willing to drive.

I checked out the post "This will make you sick" and the guy in the truck illustrates my perspective.  I said earlier that I ride as close to the right side as is safe, because... "I'd rather trust the ability of an inattentive/unskilled driver to not hit something (me) than pi$$ off someone who may do only God knows what in a rage."

When I viewed the video, my immediate thought was "stupid jerk."  But then I realized that the man in the truck had that same thought in his mind just before he committed his crime.  I can't feel morally superior to this guy when I'm just like him.  I could just write this guy off as a "hater" but then I'd have to realize my own capacity to hate.

Bottom line, we all have things that "set us off" inside and I just don't want to be one of those things to someone while on a bicycle.  Besides, it ain't smart to bring a bicycle to a car fight!  Cool

The one from whom I needed to be saved... is the very one who saved me.  That's Amazing Grace!

Reminds me of a quote "God didn't make all men equal, but Smith and Wesson did" or something like that. Smiley

If somebody riding in a 5000 lb. truck and with a baseball bat threatens somebody minding their own business out riding their bike, legally I might add.

They're not just a hater.

If I was on a jury, and barring any extenuating circumstances that the video didn't reveal, if the bikers had rammed the bat up his az I would have to consider it justifiable homicide.

I'll have to say the guy has some balls. And they seem to be rattling around in his cranium.

I believe it was said of Samuel Colt.

And yes the OFG in the truck probably left before he gave himself a heart attack or figured out he could well have had an aluminum suppository.

(OFG= old fat guy)
