Evolution Series forks affected
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRAIN) — In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Fox has initiated a voluntary recall of certain 2013 Evolution Series forks manufactured between March 1 and November 30, 2012.

The recall involves 32 and 34 Evolution Series bicycle forks with 120 to 160 millimeters of travel with an open cartridge damper. The fork damper cylinder-piston assembly in some units may separate and allow the fork to over extend under certain circumstances, possibly causing the front wheel to detach from the bike while in use.

Fox has received one report of an incident in which a broken damper may have caused the fork to over extend.

The recalled forks were sold as original equipment on 2013 model year Specialized, Trek, Scott, Kona, Cannondale and various other brand bicycles and as aftermarket equipment.

The forks affected were assembled in Fox's Watsonville, California, facility. About 40,000 units total are recalled worldwide, of which about 12,500 were sold in the U.S. and Canada.

Fox has a description of the recalled forks on its website.

For more information, call Fox at (855) 360-3488.

Found out my 34 160mm is under the recall. Good news is Fox told me any bike shop can handle the recall. They said at most the fork would be gone a week. I guess fox is reimbursing the bike shops for shipping and whatnot? Any bike shops know any more info? Thanks.

Yes- both labor and shipping. I am still waiting to hear back as to how much.

Ditto.  Got one in and waiting on the other two to show up.

I'd really prefer they just ship out the parts and let the shop do the work.  It seems all they are really doing is replacing the whole damper which is just a simple version of the Fit cartridge. Tongue

Just got off the phone with one of their warranty techs and they will ship out the replacement damper to the shop if the shop wants to do the work themselves.   He said they will reimburse $10 labor for each fork repaired.

Right now I have one lined up and waiting for 2 or 3 more to show up later.
