While some things have revolutionized Mountain biking (V-Brakes, Disk Brakes, Suspension forks.  Others like the Thudbuster seatpost and the Pro-Flex bike have not.

What is your favorite FAIL in the mountain bike industry......

Maybe just me but massive j hook bar ends. I tried em years ago and not only did they look goofy and not work, they're dangerous as hell in tight sections. Hook a tree at speed and you'll meet the trail face first. I still see them quite a bit though.

I still use a Thudbuster. And if they still made The Softride stem, I would use that. But things that failed. The 26" wheel comes to mind

Don't hate too much on the old proflex frames and forks....they were a whole lot better than say a Manitou 2 and did not leak like a rock shox. They just solved for one thing and created another issue.

What about the softride stem (and frame)?

Biggest flop?  To me it's gotta be Spinergy and Spin wheels with a close second to Campagnolo trying to make a mtb group.

As far as linkage forks I am not sure I would put them in the FAIL bucket but the model just did not work in the mtb space over time (AMP and others come to mind) but you can't say it was not tired.

But man as funky as it was I loved my Lawill leader fork way back when.

They didn't leak because they ran on a dry-rotting elastomer spring and no damper.  They shuddered, developed play, and took hours to rebuild.  The rebuild "kit" was a bag full of plastic washers.  They were also super flexy, which defeated the point of the heavy oversized fork legs.

Spinergy is the only company that I can think of that has warrantied more product than Crank Bros.  I got 2 replacement wheels myself.  A buddy got 3 out of them.

This show was a fail too but Trek got a ton of publicity from it. Haha.

I lived in the North East at the time and any forks/shocks with elasterms in them had to be changed in the winter when the temperatures dropped...  They would get stiff as hell...
