This event draws over 5,000 participants. Are there any large event similar in the Carolinas or near southeast. The largest I've been in since moving here was 200

Mountain bike events?

ORAMM gets 500

Shenandoah Mountain 100 goes up to 600.

Too many riders for quality singletrack anyways... who wants to ride 27 miles of snowmobile trail in Michigan (aside from the 5,000 people that sign up)?

Iceman is run near the town we (Oden and I) grew up in...I wouldn't call it a mountain bike race, it's more of a road race on dirt.  It doesn't compare to any of the races around here.

I used to do it every year when I lived in Michigan. It's not really about what your racing and such, it's about the event and party. It's cool to go to an event where a lot of people who share the same interests. I just used the Iceman as an example. There's other big races such as the Chequamegon Fat Tire Fest and Leadville 100. The races I attend in this area seem to be, go to the race, then pack up and go home. Larger events also help the local economy. And also larger events seem to get more casual riders. I ask people who I ride with to do an event in the area, they think the races are professional affairs
