Knee Doc Recommendation
11/04/13 at 2:17pm
Print Post
Any recommendations for a good knee doctor/surgeon in the Charlotte area?  My wife Anne tore her meniscus (and likely a fair bit of cartilage) at the Wilkes 100 - it didn't help that she continued riding to finish it...

We are in Hickory and not familiar with the Charlotte medical scene, so any good experiences from cyclists/runners are most appreciated.  Looks like ski season is shot, so she would like to be back for 6WC!

Thanks in advance!
Kip

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);    This guy did my knee surgery a couple years ago. He is also a cyclist. And anyone I know who has kids that play football in the area use him Smiley

I'm in the medical field and share patients with Dr. Barron.  He would do my knee if I had issues.

Dr. James Fleischli - Ortho Carolina

He did my ACL and Meniscus in 2007. Surgery was July 1 IIRC and I was able to race in the "beer League" at Sugar Mountain that winter. The knee felt stronger than ever and he was relatively open to a more aggressive therapy program since I was only about a year removed from college football and my body just was not responding to the more cautious rehab the PT originally put me on.

Ortho Carolina Sports Medicine Center.  Dr. Piasecki did my ACL replacement and lateral and medial meniscus repairs in Jan 10.

Fleischli at Ortho Carolina totally screwed up my knee (2nd ACL+MCL). Had to have another doc (Thomason at Carolina Orthopaedic in Gastonia) fix what he could of the mess that moron made Angry. It's pretty good now but still wear a brace when skiing for security.
BTW, my first ACL recon was 12 years ago and the doc (now retired) did a great work - 100% recovery was racing bikes 3 months after.

Sorry to hear that.  I've had nothing but good experiences with him, of course none of them required surgery.

I had Fleischli do my knee, I had both meniscus, ACL, and MCL.  He is AWESOME, for me at least.  My knee feels great, and there customer service is top notch.  Sorry you had a bad experience but I cannot recommend him enough.  They were great!

I am another Fleishchli success story. Torn ACL, sprained MCL, partiallly torn meniscus from a skiing accident. He was great. I am very close to 100% now. I'd say maybe about 98%.

Sounds identical to mine and how I did it. No more DIN settings at 13 for me. Smiley

+1 for Dr Barron.  He has worked on my knee twice, once with a torn meniscus, and then another meniscus tear and a partially torn ACL.  He also rides, and has been the team Dr for multiple professional team, but treated me the same as many of his high profile clients.  It is rare when I actually even remember that the knee has been worked on twice.

I torqued my left one getting out of the tanning bed.

You asked.

Dr. D at Ortho Carolina.... (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Had an IT band syndrome that PT just couldn't help about 10 yrs ago. He butterfly'd it at the knee like a fine piece of chicken breast, and the knee felt like it was 18 years old again.

I'd go with either Dr. D'allesandro from OrthoCarolina or Dr. Jason Batley. Both are excellent.  I work in the medical field and have dealt with both personally and professionally.
