Converting from Octalink to outboard BB

I'm new to MTB after riding road bikes for the past couple years.  I picked up a Dean Ti Soft tail, which has a Deore XT M752 crank with Octalink V2 BB.  Currently the BB is smooth and without issue.  Arms are scuffed from use and I just replaced the center chain ring.  All in all - fully functional at the moment.

I ran across a NOS M752 Crank with new Octalink BB and was wondering if I should pick it up for when it comes time for a replacement.  Or would I be better off converting to outboard bearings and a newer crankset when the time comes.

Any special issues when swapping to outboard bearings?

Mike

Outboard bb's thread in as a standard square taper or octalink would. Outboard can be more sensitive to bb shell continuity- so just for kicks have your bb shell faced.
