Building wheels

So I had a friend/customer break his final spoke on a rear wheel that has had a chronic spoke breaking problem.  He purchased the wheel online from somewhere so he decided to re-lace the hub to a new rim with new spokes, etc.  Got a big surprise when we unlaced the old wheel...

Spokes on the top were on the non drive side.  Spokes on the bottom were on the drive side.

Who does this?!  WTH?!  There have got to be at least 6 or 7 different lengths there. Tongue

Dude, I couldn't tell you.  Some of the spokes were barely in the nipples and some were at least 3-4mm above the head of some nipples.  Looks like a wheel builder was cleaning out his "odds and ends" drawer. Tongue
