Out scouting the pumptrail at beatty, some poor chap decided he was going to pull up and take a ride on the closed trails... David had something else in mind. Commentary was added afterwards when we had a written account of the exchange between david and the driver.

There were some fresh tracks today at BYT when I went in to pull the bridge out for Marion Diehl.

I'd recommend waiting the required 24 hours as the trail is currently damp.

Lots of area on Farmbrook side for "burial plots" and the poop plant would help cover up your stench.
Don't let me catch you.
Just sayin...

Same guys. Who rides a carbon Hardtail with a thud buster?? unless Patrick added something creative/ funny to the video there was not much to hear. I just told him the trip was closed And They should not be riding it. He said they were just meeting up and heading to Fisher. (Total BS I'm sure I think they were just waiting for me to leave)

I stuck around talking to my fiance' on the phone. A couple of his buddies drove up and they left. I can only assume they went to ride Fisher...I always tell folks they can ride that trail when it rains  Wink

Great.  So he leaves one muddy trail to go ride another muddy trail. Tongue  Glad I put out the pungy sticks last night...

Do the Beatty trails get closed by the Parks and Rec Department after a rain?  If yes, the Police should be called to stop the riders.  If no, the Police should be called to stop the harassment.

Parks and Rec don't build OR maintain the trails out there, my trail crew and i do. If asking someone not to ride the trails that are closed due to weather conditions is harassment, well, as the guy charged with fixing the damage....you can just bite me.

The trailblazers are clearly the bad guys here. They repress all our fun. Surely its our right to ride trails anytime we please, afterall we are entitled. How dare they negotiate and maintain a relationship with parks, fundraise and build trails, spend hundreds of volunteer hours maintining them and then complain when others engage in behavior that destroy them.  Roll Eyes

The work you do is great and underappreciated, but you are flirting with a fine line.  You dont own the trails nor do you have any real authority.  I mean theoretically anyone that owns a home that has a higher tax value than yours, and pays their taxes owns more of the trail than you do.

There was never a question of ownership, only responsibility. As the person who fixes the trail out there i asked someone not to mess it up. I guess we should comb through county records to find out who has the biggest house in mint hill and ask them to open or close the gate at sherman. Im done. Trail was wet and posted closed.  I asked someone (nicely by the way) to respect that and not to ride. End of story and I would do it again.

Man, a little bit of rain and everyone loses their damn minds....

If the trail status is "closed", then it's closed. For everyone.
No one is special, no matter what shops and logos they have on their kits.
And instead of squabbling about trail authority, maybe some people should show up for some trail workdays and find out what goes in to making/keeping trails ready to ride.

Let's quell these electronic dick measuring contests....

Besides building and maintaining trails(Thank You!) some of the trail coordinators and workers like to:

Post childish and inflammatory you tube video depicting aggressive trail stewards,
see the first post in this thread, (Thank You! Patrick),

Booby trap the trails
"Glad I put out the pungy sticks last night..."(Thank You! CyclePath)

and threaten murder
"Lots of area on Farmbrook side for "burial plots" and the poop plant would help cover up your stench.
Don't let me catch you." (Thank You! JR)

JoeT,

I think you need to calm down and not get so butthurt over some internet forum posts.
You must log a lot of hours helping out with trail work, so let me apologize in advance from all the thankful TC's...

...oh, and who threatened anything? I don't really have plots ready. Would seem wasteful to not help feed the local coyotes...

Man.. The most valuable lesson I have learned out here in the northwest is to shut up and ride. Seriously.. It sure is nice to ride with everyone that rides regardless of wheel size or coolness. This lends itself to more people on the bikes and on the trails having fun.

I am really not looking foward to riding amongst a bunch of bitchboys. Why is it up for debate that riding trails when they are muddy is bad for the trails in charlotte? They are red clay.. You really want that goo on your 9000 dollar Niner ?

I yell at people all the time for driving like dickheads but it's not my road and technically not even my car because the bank owns more of it than I do at this point. Does that forfeit my right to let my preferences be known?

Seriously, the tc has the right to let the rules be known. Enforcement not so much.. But yelling is encouraged in my book. Teaching one human at a time to not be a careless, entitled jackass. I can guarantee the people trying to ride when the trails are muddy have never picked up a shovel.

For lesser offenses, trail dragging behind a meet up of the Dirt Divas should be sufficient.

I am sure you were out riding because you sure don't know how to use a shovel Grin. By the way if any of you keyboard jockeys would like to learn how to use hand tools your TC can learn ya. Mark just got me 5 new sets that will put calluses on your hands instead of getting them on your fingertips from your keyboards. Get out and pitch in instead of sitting on your butts bitching and moaning. As Jack says many hands make light work! People will ride wet trails because they have NO idea what it takes to keep them in good riding condition and don't give a s##t! You all know this is a fact. If those people took time off the bike to help they might understand and respect the work that goes into upkeep. Everyone can give up a day of riding to help once in awhile. If any of you would like to get on our list for MD,PRP or BYT pm me and I will put you on our list. Thanks from your friendly neighborhood TC.

Oh you know, you're Rich which is short for Richard, which has a slang short, "Dick".
You (being Dick) move.
So in summary, you, Dick, plus move equals:

Dick Move.

Weird part was I actually agreed with his post.
While I can see the attempted humor in the original post video, all it seemed to do on this forum was to kick off a &^&^ storm...

Back to the original point of this thread...

There is actually a great article on Pinkbike today about riding/racing in Mud:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The very last paragraph of the article is what all the banter here boils down to:

"PB:Thanks for the tips, but isn't riding in the mud bad for the trails?

True, riding in the mud can certainly cause some damage, but there are places where you'd
get just a few dozen rides in each year if you only rode in dry weather. Of course, there
are also locations where riding in the mud will leave a rut behind you that could take a year
to disappear. Your best bet is to assess the conditions and make a few inquiries with the
locals about whether it is acceptable to ride in the rain. It might not be the best idea to poach
your local desert singletrack on one of the few wet days that the area might have, and
doing so could earn you some bad karma that will come back to haunt you. Ever wondered
why you're the only one in the group to keep getting flat tires? Trust us, it's been proven
that a*sholes go through more tubes than nice guys."

PASA got lucky with the geology of Poston (unicorn bones & eagle sh!t) that it can be ridden when damp (except maybe lake loop. That turns into a sloppy mess).

Maybe we as a club need to find an area for an "All-Weather" trail...?
I realize land managers probably don't want slop holes for trails on their land, but if the building intent was all weather, then special techniques/requirements could be utilized?

I'm all for having a trail to ride when it's sloppy outside (besides Poston).  An extra couple pounds of mud clinging to your frame will just make you stronger and make you clean out/repack bearings.

Could this type of trail be built locally?

Actually, on that topic.   Quoting the tc of poston from the PASA site.

"zod: Actually what the rules sign says at Poston if you've not read it is something like "use your best judgement."
zod: So if you think riding in the wet is bad at all and you won't do it on the CLT trail then you shouldn't come over to poston to do it either."

Please respect the trails. Thanks in advance

Noted. It's been a while since I've been there last.

I thought Poston was "open" for the most part after rain, except like earlier this last spring with the monsoon.

You guys may want to update the description Vinnie put here then:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

"Restrictions
Poston is ALWAYS open! The trail drains very well and does not close for rain."

I just now realized that some of you (mostly 26er guy, and the like) probably think that the voice in the video is either David's voice, or what David actually said. It's not, at all. I feel stupid for not making that clear to some of the lesser evolved.

Oh Patrick, youre such a mean and terrible person shame on you for taking any initiative to create cool stuff and for a trail boss to do his job by deterring people from riding the trails when they are soaked. You are such a dick for making a stupid commentary video as the person walked away. You should be banned from ever doing anything with the THTB again after showing this blatant lack of respect for your fellow man. How ever will this site or the trails at FJB ever recover you mean mean person!  Cheesy
