Voluntary recall by SHIMANO
OF SHIMANO MECHANICAL DISC BRAKE CALIPERS FOR ROAD BIKES: BR-CX75, BR-R515 AND BR-R315

We have identified a safety issue with respect to our mechanical disc brake calipers for road bikes sold after February 2012. The affected models are: BR-CX75, BR-R515 and BR-R315 (sold outside of N. America). No injuries have been reported, but we are voluntarily recalling the affected brake calipers, and are replacing them with improved calipers in which the performance issue no longer exists.

Remedy/Contact: Consumers should stop using bicycles with the recalled brake calipers and bring them to a Shimano authorized retailer in your area for a free inspection and installation of replacement calipers.

For further information, call Shimano American Corp. toll free at 1-800-353-4719 (Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm PDT)

For Canada, call Shimano Canada LTD. 1-877-377-5211 (Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm EDT)

Not to hijack, Bart.  But how is it SRAM, Shimano, Hope, Magura and many other manufacturers have made mechanical and hydraulic disc brakes for mtn bikes for over 10 years that now rarely have a glitch (other than noise) but can't seem to get it right for Road and CX bikes?!  And that list includes Avid, Tecktro and now Shimano.

WTH?!

I think they're probably trying too hard to get the weight of disc systems down to cantis/calipers- weight is the complaint coming out of the World Cup CX scene.

The SRAM hydros didn't become an issue until the Bend, OR race where it was just above zero degrees- TJ and Powers were both using the hydros in Hendersonville the next weekend when it was in the 30's without issue.  They were all on canti's or cable discs at Nationals yesterday- SRAM mandated I would assume.

I wonder about their ability to test that level of function, at those temps aside from some automated rig in a freezer.
