I road Sherman this morning about 10:00. It was wet in a few places mostly on the Lake Loop but nothing major as far as water. I did remove a lot of sticks and limbs. I did not get them all but I did get up a lot. One problem you will find is 3 trees have fallen across the trail. The first one is after you cross the first bridge. The second tree is on the “Roller Coaster”. The third one was knocked down by the first one and is blocking the trail after you come off the “Roller Coaster”.
Have a great ride.

Great shape. Rode the entire track this afternoon. Lake loop had some sloppy spots but overall great shape.

I rode it too, and I wouldn't call it great. Lots of erosion, deadfall, soft spots, etc. Kind of slow, but not really muddy. Certainly better than the alternative.

I'm planning on riding out there tomorrow.
I can take the saw and maybe take out the trees if it is deemed okay by the Sherman TC....

I'd need to know before 930 tomorrow morning.

Agreed, I think last Saturday caused a lot of erosion.

The erosion mentioned was due to rain, not bikes.

My above post was referring to the rain event last Saturday, not people riding it.

It was money today. Some erosion in spots and a couple mud puddles but 98% perfect.

Agreed...t'was my 1st ride in a month, so I huffed-n-puffed 'round the whole trail but I  was impressed w/how dry it was...evidence of exemplary trailbuilding skillz.
Thanks guys!

Tough couple days, if someone else got hurt.   Undecided  My frame snapped like a match stick yesterday and had to carry the bike out in 2 pieces from the Lake Loop.  Left a few marks and a really swollen hand, but I think its just a bad sprain(s).  Guess that means I get to upgrade!   Grin

Holeesheeit, that's one of the most epic frame failures I've ever seen.  Post the manufacturer so we know what to avoid (looks like a moto to me).  I assume a landing on one of the kickers on Lake Loop was the final straw?

Yep, it's a 3+ year old Motobecane Fantom 29er. Snapped on the first little drop to the left after crossing the pond levy.  I checked the warranty, but there's so much fine print about dents and other stuff.  I'm thinking it's probably not worth looking into a waranty replacement, given all the nicks and dents that were already in it.  Weird thing is that there were no dents/deep nicks where it broke.  Seems like a strange place for a frame to fail.

Actually that's where many frames fail. That's one of the highest stress areas on a bike.

Anywhere near a weld becomes weaker due the heat needed to complete the weld.  The weld itself is strong, the tubing on the other hand......

Glad you are OK.

I had the same thing happen to me on a high end Ti Merlin a number of years ago.  Just lucky I had finished the downhill portion and was on the flat section when the failure occurred.

It's definitely an interesting feeling to have your front wheel pass underneath you.....

No doubt.  That looks like it could have ended really badly.  Glad you weren't hurt bad.  Sucks it happened where it did though.  That is a pretty good hike carrying two pieces of a bike.

On an different note, the trail was in real good shape yesterday.  Props to all the people who maintain it.  It shows how well it is maintained by how fast it gets back into riding shape after a bunch of rain.

I ended up getting my hand checked out and it turns out I broke a bone in there, so I'll be out of trail riding and racing commission for a while.   Cry  Envious of everyone who could enjoy the great conditions the past couple days.  I'm sure the trail was in primo shape come Sunday and Monday.

I do have to give kudos to the trail gnomes too.  They've done a great job clearing off the trails and adding new features.  In particular, some of the new berm work out here is fantastic!   Smiley  Thanks again for all the hard work you guys put into this and the other trails in the area.  Looking forward to enjoying it again once I mend up and get a new bike together.
