Is anyone using one of threes? Is it cray to spend $160 on a helmet?

I have been using a Fox Flux helmet for the last few years and in the market for a new helmet. Came accross this one and wonderd if any shops Cary it.

I haven't used one but have been seriously considering it. Seems to offer more protection. Would also like to hear from anyone who has one.

I have one. My doctor suggested it. He rides also. The engineering is supposed to reduce the concussion significantly. (I have had a couple do not need any more. Am not going to stop riding) It is light enough and comfortable. It fit me without much adjustment. I have only ridden with it once. Maybe when the weather gives a break a few more rides are in store.

Thanks for your feedback. Did either of you get it local?

I got the POC Trabec from my wife for the holidays and was previously riding a Fox Flux, since they came out in like 2003 or whatever.  Additionally I have a POC Cortex Flow Full face which is very comfortable.
1)  I really like the look it is very "Enduro"
2)  The visor serves more of a purpose than on the Flux
3)  If and when the time comes the back of the helmet will support the use of goggles better than my Flux did
4) I was disappointed that the base Trabec does not have the same inner suspension that the Full Face does.  Your head is basically right up against the inner shell via some padding.
5)  I have noticed some additional wind noise from the straps that I never had with the Flux.  If I adjust them a bit when I am riding I can reduce the noise, but I never had to do that with my Flux.

Unfortunately they are hard to find locally and I would have liked to line up the Trabec with the Trabec Race and see if the inner support is different, or are you just paying extra for the 2 color option and you have to go up to the Trabec Race MIPS to get the suspended inner lining.

I found the MIPS online for $180 which is a good price. I am trying to justify the price for a helmet but I'd rather get the safest helmet that I can. For comparison sake what size POC did you get and what size was the fox?

So more expensive does not = more safe.  More expensive usually means, more fashionable, lighter etc.  That being said if you are ok with the price Id say go for it.  Actually I just checked and all 3 have the same safety certifications

CERTIFIED EN 1078, CPSC 12.03

Where as the Full Face MIPS has an additional Certification
CERTIFIED EN 1077B, EN 1078, CPSC 12.03

Additionally I came across a picture of the inside of the Trabec Race MIPS and it does NOT have the same suspended inner component that the Full Face has

I am pretty sure I have the M/L Trabec and I dont remember the Fox size it was a long time ago.

I did not find a local shop that carries the helmet. I got it through Performance for 150 plus 10 bucks shipping. The only  colors left were red or an ugly green.
The second brand was out of stock.
I guess they are popular.
The POC  and one other brand helmet has a different liner system in it. There are several papers out on it. It uses the conventional expanded poly and a second liner of Kevlar. This reduces the torsional spin that the brain takes especially with a side impact. My doctor is up on it and recommended it.
All helmets meet the same CPSC standards; those standards have not been "adjusted" in many years.
The CT scan when I knocked myself out on a bland spot at Fisher in October was $5300.00. After insurance it was still a chunk of cash. I lost much of three days from my hard drive.
Dennis Norwood was there to lead me out. He will vouch that I was out of it.
My old helmet did its job as it was designed. I just believe it could be better.

Correct...it was designed to keep you from splitting your skull and spilling your brains out on the ground. Not to prevent the rotational forces that cause a serious concussion.

And there is no reason you can't buy a helmet just because you want to...  Nothing wrong with that.  Smiley

Ive seen alot of folks rocking these helmets and they look great. I cant speak for safety yet...thankfully... but I've been wearing the "enduro" style helmets for a while(mine is a Giro Feature) and I really like the extra protection on the back of my noggin'.

Heres a decent write up of all the various "enduro" helmets as well as a review of the POC

Been riding with mine for about 2 years.  No complaints and would buy another one.  The chin strap seems to fit closer to my neck than the Giro's I was used to but overall fit is better.  The adjustment system is similar to the Roc Loc allowing for a good fit to the shape of your head.  Also as mentioned, plays nice with goggles and sunglasses.

I've also been thinking about replacing our older helmets with these. There really are some good articles out there on that rotational spin thing, and it sounds like we may start seeing more and more of this technology in other brands.

Hard to put a price on protecting the ole noggin.
