You better be in shape for the Iron Mountain. Lots of technical single track climbs. A lot of races have technical single track in the race, but the Iron Mountain has it on the climbs too. A great race, awesome trails, but plan on it taking longer then you think. You have time to get ready though - just head out to Pisgah every chance you get and climb, then climb some more!

Say,I know single track is the thing, but I was looking for some good gravel roads in Pisgah and surrounding areas. Anyone know of a good source to find these. I want to work some of this gut off to the point that I don't hurl on the Single track Wink

I've been looking for the same gravels info.

If you start heading up that way in search of the gravels, let me know!

A large majority of ORAMM is gravel.  There should be plenty of info here and other places on self-supported parts of the race- there should be several threads here to search.

I've started from the bottom of Curtis Creek (Old Fort) and looped around to Heartbreak Ridge > Jarrett Creek > back to the bottom of Curtis Creek.  I think it's a fairly popular training route for the race.  Heartbreak Ridge would be the only singletrack section- mostly downhill, fairly gnarly.

South Pisgah Ranger District has at least a hundred miles of gravel forest roads. Good climbing, decent descending, and little traffic too. Throw some wide nobbies on your road bike and take off.
