flashing yellow and solid red.  No green.

Separate turn lane or combined turn/straight?

Seems more an issue with programming and the sensing strip in the road not picking up bicycles.

Old roadie trick when you have an opportunity to put a foot down - Lean the bike out and to the side to create a larger surface area for the sensor strip to "see".  Doesn't work all that well with carbon fiber though.

I guess I don't see the issue with it. Those traffic lights use red, yellow and green for the left turn arrow. Seems more an issue with programming and the sensing strip in the road not picking up bicycles. Before they just had a green arrow, then it would turn off and it was understood that it was left turn yield on green.

I missed a light because of the sensing strip on Tuesday morning and it made me think of this thread.  I was the first vehicle in a left turn only lane, but the car behind me stayed about 20 feet back (people do this frequently when I'm on a bike at a light, I really don't understand why) and was not on the strip so we didn't get the arrow even though the straight lanes got green.

Doesn't work, period.  My 400lbs motorcycle won't trip them most of the time.  Sometimes cutting the motor and restarting helps.

When I'm on my bicycle, I point at the strip and wave cars up to me to trip them.  When in doubt, run it.

Here in Mecklenburg County there is someone to work with on most of the things you guys have mentioned. Call the Bike Coordinator (works for DOT) and make the requests. He is awsome to work with and may be able to help.

I've had a few emails back and forth with Ken a few times when I had some questions about the aggressive driver reports (link below) and he was very helpful and responded to my emails pretty quickly.
