Design-A-Jersey contest: OK, here is the story. We opened on Broad Street in Statesville in April of 1989. For those doing the math, that is right around 25 years ago. To commemorate the occasion, we want YOU to design a 25th anniversary jersey for us. No real rules except the one we like best wins. Not only is your design preserved for posterity, you get a jersey in your size plus a $50 gift card to spend on anything in the shop. The template is below for the jersey and keep in mind we may need to alter the design slightly to fit the template. Contest ends March 31, 2014. Feel free to pull any logos off the First Flight web site that you might need. Any questions, give us a shout.

Great idea!

Has anybody reading this NOT been to First Flight Bikes in Statesville? If so, your missing a real treat. It's not only one of the coolest old-timey storefronts in the country, but the MOMBAT collection will knock you out!

If you're considering entering the contest - visit the store and you'll be inspired (and bring a 6 pack).

Wes, you guys doing anything special for the NAHIBS next month?

We have talked about a bunch of different things and have lots of the builders that are coming up to visit but the only thing we have set right now is that we will have a kinda open house on Thursday night and stay open late. Still working on the details of that and anything else.

I love FirstFlight & the work you guys do.  But as a guy who feeds his family and supports his bike habit with the design work i do every day, spec work is wrong.  I'd never ask you to repair a bike, then only pay if I liked the job you did.  Call it a contest or what ever you want... The best design work will always come out of a relationship where the needs of a client are understood, agreed upon, and a process put in place to critique and refine the idea until a solution is achieved.

Matt, sorry you took it that way, we were just hoping that some people who arent professionals may have fun with it and show their off their Microsoft Paint skills.

Just as an FYI.   

     First Flight has used (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) to do many of their shop, MOMBAT and Mountain Goat jersey designs.  They also did our most recent club jersey design and my most recent shop jersey design. First Flight, Mountain Goat and Mombat are listed in the client list.

But I do totally understand your perspective. I don't think anyone like's to give away their hard earned labor.  I think it's more of a kind of crowd sourcing to help come up with a new and unique jersey design.  Plus getting the jersey you designed and a $50 GC is pretty cool!

Yep, Kris has done 4 or 5 jersey designs for us along with a bunch of event stuff.  I absolutely love his stuff but it does have a little "continuity" to it and you can see the similarities between his designs.  Thought it might be fun to see if anyone wanted to have some fun with it.  Doesn't really need to be a "professional" design, it could just be an idea.  The professionals at Verge, who do get paid, will help us finalize it.   

Our first jersey was literally done with a box of Crayolas!
