sports nutritionist?

Anyone know of any good sports nutritionists or registered dietitians in Charlotte? I have been trying the “trial and error” method of figuring out what to eat and what not to eat for races/long rides with varying degrees of success. When I guess wrong, things go can very wrong quickly which can be unpleasant. I know there is tons of advice and forums and stuff online with all sorts of information available for free but there is just such a vast array of information and opinions that is gets sort of mind boggling….I also have a few minor health issues I have to keep in mind….so I feel like I might benefit from talking to an actual person who can sort of tailor the information to what I need and what I don’t need.

I do not recommend my diet of chocolate fudge Pop Tarts, peanut M&M's, and beer to everyone...

just most everyone.

I recommend a pre-race meal of a chocolate milkshake, 2 bacon sausage egg McMuffins, home-fries and topped off with some grits.

At least for those I am racing against in my category......

I agree with this.  If I were looking for someone today, I would call Namrita.

I tried someone local a few years ago, and did not feel like she really knew much about endurance sports nutrition.  Just gave me a very generalized "plan" to follow, which did not take into account varying efforts/ride times.  Was NO help for races longer than 1.5 hours, and this was when I was doing the longer races, so she really didn't help me at all.  She was more focused on football players.

Namrita has both the experience as a competitive mountain biker and the knowledge from her (real) education at a (real) university (cough, cough, Ramblin Wreck.... cough cough).  Plus, she's super nice.  If I was going to pick someone to beat me to a pulp in a 24-hour race, she's the one I would want, since every time she lapped me last time I "raced" her, she was the most encouraging rider out there.

Ok cool. I will check her out. I sent her an email and will see where that leads.

I don’t like sweet stuff…..Eggs are creepy….Sausage is almost as creepy as eggs….I don’t eat fried food…..so pretty much the grits and a little bit of the bacon is about all I would eat on your plan.  Undecided

I don't like carbonation so I don't drink any fizzy drinks. Every once in awhile I'll have beer but its not my preference.

I agree with you Emily! I will be 64 next month and I have never consumed a beer. That's all some people talk about and I just don't get it!

You've never had a beer really? That's impressive.

So thanks for the opinions everyone. I'm in contact with Namrita and will see if she can help me out.

How could you get it if you've never tried it? That's like all the people that say 29ers,(or 26ers or 27.5ers) suck but have never ridden one.  Roll Eyes
