Does anyone here have any experience with Haro bikes? I was looking at this 27.5

I haven't heard much about Haro or seen anyone riding their bikes, just wondering if anyone here knows anything about them.

The shop has it for $599. I was looking at the lower end Giant Talon 27.5 when I ran across this. It's only a little more than the Talon and has hydraulics. Just wondering if this is a decent bike for the money.

Sure ,for the money, unless you get a better value by buying used

Don't. Just don't.

Haro's idea of putting a good spec on their bike is an slx rear derailleur, and Tektro hydraulic brakes.

Friends don't let friends ride haros.

About 10 years ago I bought a pre-owned Haro at a local bike shop. I cracked the frame in a crash and Haro replaced it for free, including labor. So I can't complain about the service or the frame cracking (it was pretty violent and did more damage to me than the bike). I still have the rebuilt bike as a backup. Certainly consider the components on the one you're looking at, as you would any purchase from any manufacturer.

So what is wrong with SLX components? Tektro brakes can also be just as dependable.
Are you that great of a rider that your bike need top tier XTR components.

I rode a Haro for quite some time and had excellant service from it. I didn't know bikes needed Gucci components to be enjoyable.

I've only been riding since summer and don't really know what components are good and what's junk, so any input on the brakes, fork etc is appreciated.

I'm looking at 27.5 because I wanted to try something bigger and 29ers feel too big to me (I'm kinda short).

I was looking at the Talon 27.5 5 and then saw this one. I'm thinking now I may wait a bit and save up to get something nicer. I have a guitar for sale on craigslist that should allow me to get something nicer when it sells.

Haro was my first mtb back in 97/98. It was hot pink.

Nothing is wrong with SLX, I said their idea of a good spec is putting an SLX rear derailleur on it, namely that the rest could be junk, but since there is a decent rear derailleur then it is a good build.

Having worked in a shop that sold a lot of Haro bikes, we had nothing but complaints about the tektro brakes, sub-par in house components. The Haro from old is not the Haro that exists now.

If it is between a Giant, and a Haro, I'd say there is no contest. (And I am not a massive fan of Giant)

One of my Tektro brakes was leaking, and Tektro sent me an upgrade from their performance line. I forgot the name. I sold it on ebay and it was gone as quick as it was listed. Must be a good product to some users. My current bike has Juicy 3's. And they work great for their intended purpose.   I think if your going for a lower price, low priced Hydros are a better purchase then low priced mechanicals

My daughter bought a Haro bike about eight years ago on sale. She rode a lot until she went into the military and has had no problems with the bike. And I have never heard her complain about it. I'm impressed enough by it that I'm considering borrowing it from her for a friend to ride out in Colorado this summer. And if you don't like the components one can always upgrade later.

I had a Tektro t-shirt and it shrank.  After only one year the 'tro' fell off.  If they spelled it Techtro I could still wear the shirt.  Now I just feel even more stupid than usual.

Yeah you don't notice the difference until the trail starts to get tight. Or there is a radical direction change (hard turn through compression into an incline), you know, places where you have to dump your speed and then have to crank it up for the wago wheel momentum. Oh, and don't forget getting playful on diff features. That's when the 27.5 shines. Plus it's a great way to go for the less tall people out there.

I built up a Haro SS a few years ago.  It was a pretty decent riding bike, can't really complain about the quality of the frame.  I'm a pretty big dude and that thing took a beating the 5 or 6 times I rode it.  I decided single speed wasn't really my thing and sold it, but I'd own another.

Thanks for all the input, since I posted this I got hit with a bunch of side jobs and have saved up around $1000 on my new bike fund, looking at a few other bikes now.

Still looking at 650B, if anyone has suggestions for one around the $1000 range feel free to suggest something. So far I'm looking at the new Kona Blast or Cinder Cone, Raleigh Tokul 3 and Jamis Nemesis 650 Comp.
