MTB TRAILS NE North Carolina??

Does anyone know of any decent trails in the NE part of the state?  My daughter is in college up there and plays softball for the school.  I visit there frequently and the games are usually in the afternoon.  Thought I might take the bike and hit some trails during the earlier part of the days.  Any help or advice would be appreciated.  Links to websites and trail info/directions would be a plus.  Area is from Roanoke rapids east to ahoskie and could even travel up to the Franklin Virginia area.

I believe Moores Spring Trail and Campground has been closed.  Not looking like it is going to open back up either.  Sucks because it was a awesome trail.

Thanks guys but nothing shows up on single tracks other than the canal trail which I think is basically a green way  I might check it out anyway.  Moore's springs is over 3 hours from my daughters college. I'm just looking for something I can ride in the morning before she plays in the afternoon.  Anyone else have any contacts in the area or suggestions?  Thanks for the help!

The Roanoke Canal Trial is probably your best bet. Or hit the Raleigh area trails, on the way.

I grew up in that area.  I ride the Roanoke Canal Trail whenever I go visit my parents, and it's ok to get some pedaling in, but not really mountain biking.  There is some interesting historical stuff along the Canal, however.  The closest legitimate trails are in Greenville, which is a little over an hour south.  Last time I rode there I believe they had about 13 miles.  Check with The Bicycle Post (local shop that rents the land and maintains the trail) for trail info.

Thanks Lee, slow, and everyone.  I'm going to give the canal trail a look first then will try to check out the trail bicycle post maintains down in Greenville.  I know my daughter will be playing in Richmond for a couple of days next month too and I might check the trails out while I'm there.  Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Looks like NCtrailX is looking for the same thing as me.

Bicycle post trail is great. I rode it very often when I went to school out that way. Some decent technical stuff and a surprising amount of elevation change considering how flat the land is in eastern NC. Keep and eye out for snakes though. Copperheads like to use the higher pine block areas and saw quite a few water moccasins in the swampy areas.
