I'm friends with the town manager.  I believe it's about 3.5 miles right now.  They said 1000 feet of climbing, which seems like a ton in that small distance.  I believe it's basically uphill halfway, downhill halfway.  Hoping to hit it soon to give them some feedback.

The first loop is in place, built by Trail Dynamics of Pisgah Forest.  Another 5-10 miles are coming over the next year   The high point of the trail is just 500 feet above the trailhead, but there's 1,000 feet of total climbing in the loop.  Similar to Rocky Knob in Boone, but less...rocky.   The trail is smooth and banked, not terribly technical, but an aerobic workout with a fun descent in either direction.  Average grade is 8-9% on the climbing portions.  Trail signage and a larger trailhead are in progress.  Feedback on the trail is desired!  See attached route and elevation profile.

Sweet.
Some may not know that the bouldering and rock climbing in this area is high class. This is just a bonus for a full weekend trip.

Right you are.  In addition to the climbing at Rumbling Bald, the new BCP loop goes through a new bouldering area awaiting development.

I tried to walk part of this last fall when under development. I understood most of it was done, but the lollipop handle entrance/exit was only a flag line and I didn't continue up to any completed trail. The public trail head includes a pretty bridge across Buffalo Creek. As per the link above, this is part of what is expected to be a lot of new purpose built trail around Lake Lure. Trail Dynamics is now owned by Ed Sutton, who did the Uwharrie work on Keyauwee a few years back. The downhill ought to be sweet.

I really dig the Lake Lure area. Love the beach, and the biker tiki bar. I heard that someday they may have mountain biking at Chimney Rock. But this addition makes it a great possibility in the now. If they added more lodging, the area would be perfect   Smiley

Just rode this today and here is my review:

We decided we'd go counter clockwise, since the longer downhill sounded more fun to us. So we climbed up the portion of the 3.5 mile trail. The entire time heading up, we'd wished we went the other way because of how everything looked. Switchback after switchback with large berms and rollers. The trail peaks out in a massive boulder field, then it headed down with super flowy rollers, berms, and jumps. It seems as though either direction you go, you are in for quite a climb, with some fun small sections to keep you occupied, then a very fast downhill. We loved the bridges and woodwork you guys did on the trail, and we can't wait to see what you have in store for the rest of the trail.

Pros: Super fast downhills of, buff, machine built singletrack. Well built trail, berms are large and give you enough confidence to fly through and carry your speed. Beautiful scenery.

Cons: While there were a lot of berms, there were a few spots that I really felt needed one. Each direction of the trail is crazy fun, but there are so many blind corners on downhills that having some signs beforehand would be wise to avoid any collisions from opposing traffic.  The parking lot was really small, barely fits 6 cars.

Overall: We were grinning ear to ear when we got back to the parking lot. These guys know how to build trails! Get up there soon and check these out, it's as close to a flow trail as I've ridden in NC.

Thanks for the review. A bigger trailhead parking area is in the works and your comments on the trail will help guide our next 5-7 miles.

Nice! I'm from Rutherford County so a trip up this place looks to be in my near future. What's the address to trail head/parking area?

Rode Lake Lure on Sunday....Wow!! is it a smooth trail!!  Its has some climbs, but its well worth it. What a nice place as well, a great job by the ones who built this place, Thank You!!
Also talked to some locals and they said a new Pump track will be open in May/June? Not sure how accurate this is tho.  If your in the area, swing by Lake Lure and ride these trails!
