Bike Commuting from Matthews/S Charlotte?

I live in Matthews and work at Presbyterian Main, and I've been thinking about bike commuting or at least biking 3 miles to the bus stop in downtown Matthews. There's a bus route that goes right up Monroe Rd/7th st.  Anybody else do something similar? I'd like to avoid appearing in someone's road rage video for hogging a lane during rush hour, but I wanted to hear from any of you as to what you're doing.

I can't speak for your area specifically, but I've come across a guy a few times on my rides to work who lives in Waxhaw, but he drives to Pineville and rides his bike the rest of the way towards uptown (probably both for distance and the fact that roads south of Pineville are a nightmare weekday afternoons).  Perhaps a driving halfway situation may work if you don't want to take the bus (and that way you're on your own schedule).

I take the 65X in to the city from Matthews when I can.    From time to time guys will bike to the bus stop, throw their bikes on the rack at the front of the bus then take them off in the city.  Seems to be a very easy process.

Since the bus runs express on 74 in to the city from Village Lake Drive your first stop would be across from the jail / courthouse.  This would require a bit of a backtrack to get to Presby Main but nothing major.

If you actually want to ride the full way from Matthews, the safer option road wise is Sardis (vs. Monroe or Providence) as it has less commercial traffic and speeds are slower due to all the schools.   Additionally, slightly past Charlotte Christian there is an option to cut into a neighborhood and remain on back roads almost to the Mint Museum right near the city.  Once you're back on Randolph road at that point there are sidewalks.  Great option when traffic gets challenging.

PM me if you want additional / perspective.

Thanks for the info. Good to know about the route past Charlotte Christian.  I just discovered the cool bike route option in google maps, and it showed me the route.

For the time being I won't be cycling all the way to town (no access to a shower up here). Looks like route 27 will be my best option, it stops at Hawthorne.  Do you know if mountain bike tires will fit on the front of the bus? I'm planning on getting a beater road bike, just haven't done it yet.
