Wondering who else is going? 2 days in the mountains sounds good to me.

Some of us "have" to go backpacking in the Smokys with their future wife to see synchronous fireflies that weekend   Sad

plus its sold out as of today...

Anyone that wants to pre-ride the course this Thursday/Friday let me know. I'll be up there and I live about 20 minutes from Kitsuma/Heartbreak/Rattlesnake and what.not.

I can bring beerz

I would much rather be backpacking with future wife than ride those trails with a bunch of dudes....total sausage party.

I'm headed out there! Really wish I could pre-ride but I don't think work will permit so I will be racing blind! Not sure how much of a disadvantage this will be.

Weather is looking a bit questionable. Rain would certainly make things interesting!

Myself and 3 buddies are racing it this weekend.  SO much fun last year.  Rain would be a bummer.

I will be racing this weekend.  Didn't do it last year, but did do ORAMM, so I've seen most of the course. Was up there this past Saturday and did Star Gap and Kitsuma.  Was misting and everything was wet, but not muddy.  It was sketchy for sure.  Went down once in a curve. It would really suck if it rained.

Is it worth bringing a fullface? Looked at the photos from last year and a few people seem to be rocking them. I'm probably going to bring some knee pads at least.

I wouldn't wear a full-face personally.  None of the descents are what I would consider technical.  Of course at a high enough rate of speed everything is technical.  There is a lot of climbing in this race (the casual parts and the race itself), that would be blazing hot with a full-face helmet. I wish I would have had knee pads on Saturday when I crashed.
I'll just be wearing a regular helmet and gloves myself.

Cool thanks. I was considering strapping it to my pack for downhill use but it might not be worth the trouble.

Can anyone give me the lowdown on heartbreak ridge? I'm not at all familiar.

Heartbreak isn't too technical but its rooty(ish) and FAST. Probably the longest sustained downhill in all if Pisgah. Its benchcut trail so theres often steep dropoffs to the left. There's one little punchy climb in the middle of the downhill nothing too bad.

+1 what'd Doc said. Pay attention and watch your speed.

Talking to the wrench at Epic Cycles today. He said tht Sunday will be climbing up heartbreak?  From the train tracks?  Ouch.

I'm afraid so.  That may be the only climb I've never done in that area. If the switchbacks up Star Gap isn't bad enough, the climb up Heartbreak will certainly get you.  At least you can take breaks going up since it isn't timed.  I'm not sure going up Heartbreak is better or worse than climbing up Curtis Creek Rd.  I guess we will find out this weekend.

Everybody camping at Camp Grier?

Good info on heartbreak! Sounds like I could get myself into trouble pretty quickly. From the handful of videos I've watched the trail corridor looks quite narrow.

I'm lucky enough to stay at my sister's place in Asheville. On that note, she's expressed some interest in coming out for a little bit to take a look at what I'm doing. Is there any place spectators could hang out briefly?

Hoping there might be some kegs on Saturday too.

Race debut for the newly built process. It's short travel out back but I think it will be pretty well suited to this race.

Everybody I'm heading up with is staying @ Camp Grier...Northlknrider, double check your HB info.  I can't find it on the PisgahPro website; but I'm 99% sure Eric said something about the climb up HB isn't "timed"...but there is a 2 hour time limit to get to the top.  That should be plenty of time if you keep a steady pace riding or walking; but definitely doesn't give a lot of time for breaks.

The climb up Heartbreak is (oddly enough) the quickest way up.  Even a proper shuttle run to the Parkway takes forever up CC Road (but is slightly shorter and much less taxing).

Suck it up, buttercup.  We'll live to fight another day!

Yes, there is a time limit up Heartbreak.  One source says 2 hours another says 3 hours.  Either way, that's plenty of time to climb.  When I say breaks, I mean 10-30 sec breaks to get your heart rate back down.  I'm kinda looking forward to climbing up, since I've never done it before.

Thanks! It's a really fun bike. Pretty much the full suspension version of my yelli screamy which is exactly what I was after.

I rode a beefy Transition Covert last year and it felt like overkill. Hopefully short travel will do the trick.

Glad we're getting some good info here. Really wish they would add a little more to the event web site.
