I have the RoadID Wrist elite.  I like the clasp for easy on easy off.  Not to mention, if you ever want different color band, you just move all the metal (Id/clasp) over to another color.  I may consider a cloth one in the future but I'm not sure of the durability of it over time.  Not to mention, I got enough funk from pads (elbow/knee)... While you can most definitely wash it... I'm sure over time the velco will get destroyed.  From a comfort perspective the rubber band will always be in great shape while the cloth can fray and velco can get messed up which could be bothersome maybe?  Just my thoughts... but, I like the rubber band on the wrist.

I went with the rubber strap simply because it was recommended by someone who had tried the others. I don't have any complaints with it.I Use it on the trail too when riding alone.

I use a cloth one with Velcro. I’ve had it about a year and a half. With no problems

I've had the nylon with Velcro for about a year and a half and have no complaints...can't address the other. Regarding the other question, I feel like somebody finding you knocked out or incoherent would be more likely to look for or notice one on your wrist than ankle. Due to the same considerations, I chose a bright color (rather than 'basic black').

Slim, wrist version for me - orange for visibility (per my wife/daughers - I bought a spare black band, but haven't used it yet). Don't even realize you have it on after a few miles.

I don't know if its valid info but I was told sometimes EMTs will use your age to decide treatment. I added my birth year beside my name just in case. Might be something to consider.

I've had the rubber with clasp (I liked that one the best but after a couple years, I couldn't get the clasp to release), velcro, and slim rubber.  Velcro works good but if you are the type to wear it all the time the band will get wet in the shower and stay wet for awhile and so will your long sleeve shirts and armrest on your chairs.  Slim seems to work well although mine is a little more tight on my wrist than I would like.  I've always worn mine on my wrist.

I wear the stretchy one at all times.  It's simple, and a standard size in case you want to transfer the metal part with laser-etched info to a strap of your choice.

Interestingly, on one trip to the ER I was asked by a nurse what it was.

I have a yellow with velcro wrist.  I don't wear it all the time, only when I'm riding.  Then I'm done,  I take it off and loop it around my helmet straps so I don't forget it when I leave.  One piece of info I would put on there is your blood type.  Might save some time in an emergency.

That is not a good thing!  You would think that would be common knowledge in an ER.

I think the point being that Road ID is a proprietary service not a commonly accepted system adopted by the health care industry.  It's much better than nothing though.

I asked my doctor's office what my blood type was (for this purpose) and they didn't have it on record; however they told me that it's a very quick test and the ER can get the results during the time they are prepping a person for a transfusion. I would include it if I had it though.

On a similar note, it is advisable to include any medications that you're on.

I have a bright red one. I think one of the first thing most medics would do is grab your right arm and check for a pulse

I have the ankle velcro one and I just didn't think it was visable enough if I needed it to be accessed that low, so now I wear the rubber one with the clasp all the time.  I had a few people at work ask me what it was.  I told them when I pass out at the bar they can return me home.

Rubber is easier to keep clean.

If a fabric band gets funky, make up a solution of a tablespoon or two of borax and a cup of hot water, stir thoroughly till disolved. Soak for 15 minutes then rinse. Borax is a brand name of the mineral salt sodium borate.

Here's another option if you like the outdoorsy, more masculine/rugged look. Not the lightest option, but it's made out of braided paracord.

I think the ER would have to type your blood anyway to be sure. I don't know if they could rely on your road ID info from a liability standpoint.

Friend of min had his "road id" tattooed just below his left armpit.  He was a BIG tri guy and logged a lot of desolate road miles by foot and wheel.  I asked him why not the typical arm band.  He said he would never lose the ink.

Got my wifes name on mine.  Something happened I'd have to marry someone with the same name.  Grin
