It would be cool if it worked even if it only lasted long enough for you to get off a trail and finish a ride. I say try it and see

It should work, I would think.  The adhesive on it is pretty strong and gummy.  I'd inflate the tube a bit to take shape and then apply it to the hole.

Thats for taping the rim not the tube but I agree, it would probably work.

I've used Gorilla tape to repair a sump pump hose that pushes about 60psi and it held up well.

Sometimes my reading is not what it used to be. I might need to bump up my reading glasses to a 2.00. Smiley

I think you would want to inflate the tube to the inside diameter of the tire then place the tape on the tube.  If you only put enough air in it to fill it up then when it expands inside the tube you could have part of the tube with a restricted diameter which could cause odd feedback from the tires. (This assumes that you are intending to wrap the tube completely.)

Rubber splicing tape works real good, sticky, flexible and seals good.
Home Depot or Lowes has it as well as any elec. supply house.
Try: 3M Temflex 2155 or Scotch 23, you can normally get them in 3/4", 1" and 1 1/2" width.
I wouldn't use it as a permanent repair but for a repair when on a ride it's quick and easy, Slime's skab patches work well also.

it works!  took some pictures of the process.  i think the MOST IMPORTANT step is to clean the area real good.  i used undiluted simple green mixed with bleach and put it on a rag to wipe down the tube first.

here's the damaged area:

i tried to patch what i could on the inside to hold it together and make it easier to apply the final patch

pic from outside right before final patch

small strips around edges

from there i just put a big piece over the hole.  i thought i took a picture from the front but i didnt.  during the process you have to play with the tape some and make sure its sitting flat on the tire.  after i put a big piece on i had to add a few strips around the edges as you could feel air leak out.  i think this is of the back side after final taping and i got the leaks to stop.

time to put it back on the rim

and add air

next step get it back on the bike and enjoy!  looking to test it out tomorrow!

i figured why not?  a tubes a tube and if i had the fix handy why not go for it?  it held up fine at sherman, i think theres a slight vibration on the front tire during the ride from it but its almost barely noticeable

That sure does look like a lot of work for a $3 tube. But I do know that Gorilla tape is great for patching small holes in blue jeans, like the ones that form where the rear pockets are sewn on. I use the handle of a screw driver to rub it in, then wear them before washing. It will even hold up to multiple washings.
