BYT Jump Line Work - CAUTION WHEN RIDING
06/16/14 at 11:50am
Print Post
This Thursday and possibly half day on Friday, June 19-20, work will begin on the BYT Jump Line section. We are hauling telephone pole chunks out to start building the tables. If you can give us a hand let me know. Some lifting and I plan on putting bodies hand working the berms at the top and bottom; there's a lot of ruts and chatter developing.

Also, we will be making a short re-route when the work gets really underway while we build and test the tables. Be alert for that line to be closed for a week or so. It could be possible to ride it, BUT WALK IT FIRST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS RIDEABLE! We may run out of daylight or time off our leashes and need to leave a jump half done overnight.

We've had lots of positive comments while working out there so I know the jumps will be a really positive addition to the BYT.

Thanks for your "Thanks" when I've seen you out there. I kinda prefer to dig alone, I'm anti-social Angry, lol, so you're welcome for the work. Please ride it and enjoy it, that's the thanks I need.

When I get back to town we gotta work on the berms we talked about for the Tyvola side.
I need to get that project finished and out of the closet.

Probably 10+ all the way up to 25 or 26 feet. That's the plan at least.

Def Santana we will get to them. There's alot at BYT we need to do while we have the machine. To be honest my first priority is the jump line, then we can do what ever else needs done. Lots of berm work could be done on Tyvola side. I do plan on helping you; I think about it everytime I ride through that section.

The tables will start at around 6-8 feet depending on how much speed is carried out of the top berm. I think the first two will be about the same size but will have lips on them more like traditional jumps. This jump line will be an intermediate level line at the easiest. Because all the jumps will be tables, any rider should be able to start at the top and gradually build up speed and confidence to hit the larger tables. You will not have to worry about casing the jump or landing front wheel first in the gap between jumps.

What I've learned so far is once you can hit a jump, size doesn't matter it's all in your head. The jump line will push you to go bigger as you get to the bottom of the line. You should know that if you can hit the first jump, don't hit your brakes and the next one will be perfect for you to carry speed.

The problem with alot of the BYT stuff is you need to be a superstar to line yourself up before the jump, while in mid-air, and then have a good landing picked out because you will most likely have to brake hard to make a sharp turn or land up-hill. The jump line will be laid out correctly so that if speed is carried all jumps will be relatively easy to jump and land. I will be testing the jumps as we build them to make sure they "work" properly. That is why the trail will be "closed while under construction." As seen with the "Pipe-Dream Gap Jump" we don't have everything perfect yet but we will. We can only work a few hours, once or twice a week, and don't really get it all dialed in before we can leave it.

Short answer long, the jump line will be progessive from top to bottom. I hope, once I'm fully the trail coordinator, to add multilple jumps through-out the trail that will be of small and medium size so riders can adjust to hits on the trail. The jump line provides a concentrated line of jumps that shouldn't surprise anyone because they're located on a jump line.

The Gravity Pirates are more than happy to put on a skills clinic at the jump line once it is built up properly. Then we can all progress to sic tailwhips and stylish no-handers and have our faces on pinkbike video of the day! LOL. Grin

If you guys have the machine, could you maybe consider also filling in the tiger pit at the old jump section? Or elongate the lander towards the jump to avoid nose plants?

Thanks for all the new stuff!

Or just fill the tiger pit with tigers.

Either way...

Yup! That would keep the short landers out!

I haven't seen the jump line yet but hearing lots of good support in here. Smiley  I'll have to come down sometime and check on the progress.  Looks like the Ditch Witch is getting "rode" hard!  Wink

Glad I had a chance to get out there to see the progress & meet some of you guys. This is gonna be good!
Also, rode some trail on the way out, Was surprised how many features are out there already! (I've never gotten past the jump line on my previous rides out there ... always start hitting jumps til I'm exhausted, and just ride the service road out ... LOL)

Hey guys, thanks for the support and feedback. Thank you also for the people showing up to help dig and fix things. I plan on being out there tomorrow as well to continue the digging. I think things are going very well, we've had some conflicts of ideas but it's all turning out for the best. I'm super happy with everything. For the record, we need to put some type of dirt retention system on top of the conduit or it will wash out.

Good to meet you Ben! thanks for the help!

As far as the tiger pit goes (I'm assuming you mean the large gap near the end of the trail to the left of the small step down type feature), once we get the jump line built and I can take the machine to the other part of BYT I could fill in the gap. However, it will take a HUGE amount of dirt and I'll have to destroy a lot of landscape to scrape it together. My advice, come to the jump line and work on our tables. Once you can feel comfortable in the air over them, you can do the "Holly Gap" as we've named it. It hits very cleanly really.

The ditch witch is a champ! We all thank the THTB for letting us use it. It would take us sooooo much longer to do all this work. I've been checking fluids and keeping an eye on the air filter as well.
