Garmin Tip and Cell Phone????

I was on a road bike ride today and found a nice cell phone in the middle of the road. I took it home and I was able to power it up but could not find any info. It was very frustrating to me because it was locked, and there was NO way possible I could easily contact the owner and get it back to them. Luckily they called it, and  even Luckier that  I was able to figure out how to answer it and set up a meet to get it back to them.

I'm sure there must be some nifty app on the smart phones to bring up some info to contact owner on initial power up like they show in the Garmin link below. I've asked about a dozen people and not one person has ever thought about adding it to thier phone, but they all agreed it was good idea.

I thought I would share this link that mtnc turned me on to for all you Garmin users... It might help you get your Garmin back.  Is there something similar for I Phones?

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

I think 'findmyiphone' has an option to remote lock (even wipe data in extreme cases) and display custom info like your name, contact info, reward, EDIT: link to direct contact you for lost or stolen phones and pads. Would think android and windows phones have a similar offering too.

There is also the RoadID app, which has your contact info on the lock screen, that could be used to track you down.

I just added this to my Garmin 800.

3 min of work to give it a chance off finding its way back to me if I lose it.

Thank you for posting this.

I sent Garmin a note a few weeks back that I thought it would be great if they had an ICE (in case of Emergency) screen.  Would be nice addition at no cost to them our us.

You could open notepad on iPhone. Set your text, hold home and power buttons simultaneously to copy to clipboard/ photo roll, then use that 'photo' as your lock screen wallpaper.

To get really fancy fire up photoshop, or any graphics app on a PC, set document size to phone screen resolution, use fave photos, snappy text, and color scheme, save as jpeg, send to phone via email or upload to social site then save as lock screen wallpaper.

Lock screen wallpaper is a good idea and really low tech.

Great tip on the Garmin, thanks for sharing.  I also heard a while back about the Road ID app for your phone--another great idea.

If Verizon is your carrier, they have an app called VZprotect. Which appears to be similar to find my phone.

It locks, wipes, and locates the phone within a 4 yard circle.

A low tech thing I would do when using a flip phone was tape a piece of electrical tape on the back of the device with my home phone number on it.

Hey winter, you tried that new grip yet?

Check this out. You lose your phone. You arrive home and instead of using your pc, your mac, your tablet or whatever to go to your favorite website, you go to the Verizon website instead. You log in, select 'find my phone', and voila, the map pops up and tells you where your phone is, within a 4 yard circle.

I've tried it. It's very accurate. So accurate that you can pinpoint the house, apartment, car or section of the woods the phone is located in easily.

Like I said, you can also lock or 'wipe the phone clean' if you're concerned about the security of your data. Wink

I think what he is saying is that the verizon can locate the phone within 4 yards.  You can be hundred of miles away.  Once it tells you where it is, it is up to you to find it within the 4 yard circle.
